Marvel Studios has officially confirmed that Scottish actor Ruaridh Mollica will play Tommy Maximoff, also known as Speed, in the upcoming Disney+ series VisionQuest. The announcement was made during Marvel’s panel at New York Comic Con 2025, where exclusive footage provided the first clear look at the grown-up version of Wanda and Vision’s son. The series will serve as the final chapter in a trilogy that began with WandaVision and continued with Agatha All Along.

The Official Announcement at NYCC 2025

The confirmation came during a surprise appearance by Paul Bettany, who plays Vision, at New York Comic Con. Attendees were shown an exclusive teaser trailer that included a brief but significant shot of Ruaridh Mollica as Tommy. The character was identified on a security monitor as Thomas Shepherd, confirming his identity as the Tommy from WandaVision. This official reveal ends months of speculation about the character’s role in the series.

The series was described at the panel as the third part of a trilogy that includes WandaVision and Agatha All Along, tying together the storylines of Wanda, Vision, and their family.

Who Is Tommy Maximoff?

Tommy Maximoff is one of the twin sons of Wanda Maximoff, the Scarlet Witch, and Vision. He first appeared as a child in the Disney+ series WandaVision. In the comics, Tommy is a superhero named Speed. Like his uncle, Quicksilver, he possesses super-speed abilities.

In the MCU, the characters of Billy and Tommy are reincarnated in new bodies. As explained in the lore, Billy Kaplan and Thomas Shepherd are young adults who contain a fragment of the souls of Wanda and Vision’s original twins. They are the same characters, but in new forms. The end of Agatha All Along set up Tommy’s search for his brother, Billy, which is expected to continue in VisionQuest.

A Look at the VisionQuest Footage

The trailer screened at NYCC offered a glimpse into the show’s plot and characters. The story will follow Paul Bettany as White Vision, who is struggling with his newly recovered memories. The footage also showed human versions of classic Marvel A.I. characters, including Ultron, once again played by James Spader, as well as JARVIS, FRIDAY, and D.U.M.-E.

Tommy’s appearance in the trailer is brief but notable. He is seen on a screen in what looks like a police interrogation, with his signature blonde fluffy hair, stating, “I have a family.” This suggests his speedster powers may have drawn some unwanted attention, and that he is beginning to remember or understand his true origins.

Ruaridh Mollica’s Acting Background

While new to the Marvel universe, Ruaridh Mollica brings an impressive acting background to the role. The Scottish actor has built his career in independent film and on the London stage. He is best known for starring in the 2024 indie drama Sebastian, where he played a writer leading a double life, a performance that earned him positive critical reviews. He also honed his craft in the West End production Clarkston.

His casting in VisionQuest marks a significant step from indie films and theater to a major studio production, where he will share the screen with established stars like Paul Bettany and Elizabeth Olsen.

The Maximoff Family Reunion

A major point of excitement for fans is the impending reunion of the Maximoff family. Elizabeth Olsen is confirmed to return as Wanda, and Joe Locke will reprise his role as Billy Maximoff, also known as Wiccan, from Agatha All Along. With Mollica joining as Tommy, the core family unit will be back together on screen.

How this reunion will happen remains to be seen. The finale of Agatha All Along saw Agatha and Billy’s ghost setting off to find Tommy. VisionQuest will likely continue this thread, showing how Tommy, now in his new identity as Thomas Shepherd, reunites with his brother and confronts his past.

The VisionQuest Storyline

VisionQuest will continue the story of White Vision, who regained his original memories at the end of WandaVision and flew off. The series will see him grappling with these memories and his identity. The plot will also involve the surprising return of Ultron, with James Spader appearing in human form.

The show is created by Terry Matalas, the showrunner of Star Trek: Picard, and is scheduled to arrive on Disney+ in 2026.
