The long-awaited Blade film from Marvel Studios faces another setback as Disney has decided to remove it from the 2025 release schedule. Initially set for release on November 7, 2025, this latest delay comes amid significant changes within Disney’s lineup, with a focus now shifting towards the upcoming 20th Century Studios project, Predator: Badlands.

Ongoing Delays and Production Challenges

Originally announced at San Diego Comic-Con in 2019, the production of Blade has faced numerous obstacles. The global pandemic significantly impacted the film’s development, but recent industry strikes from writers have further complicated its progress. The initial director, Bassam Tariq, was set to lead the project but exited the role. Following his departure, Yann Demange was brought on board as the new director. However, despite these changes, there has been no concrete timeline for production to begin.

In the midst of these delays, Mia Goth has been confirmed to play the supervillain Lilith, marking one of the few positive updates regarding the film. Fans have been eagerly awaiting more news about the project, but with the production timeline remaining uncertain, enthusiasm appears to be waning.

The Legacy of Blade

The Blade series, which originally starred Wesley Snipes as the titular character, was one of the first successful R-rated superhero films, paving the way for future ventures in the genre. The initial film, released in 1998, led to two sequels, Blade II in 2002 and Blade: Trinity in 2004, collectively grossing $418.1 million worldwide. The success of these films established Blade as a significant character in the Marvel universe.

Earlier this year, fans had the opportunity to see Wesley Snipes make a cameo appearance in Marvel Studios’ Deadpool & Wolverine, which garnered an impressive $1.3 billion at the box office. This brief return reignited interest in the character and the potential for a new Blade film.

Future of the MCU

As the release of Blade remains uncertain, Kevin Feige, President of Marvel Studios, has indicated that he will prioritize the project only once a strong script is ready. His commitment is to create a Blade film that will provide audiences with a distinct and immersive experience. In the meantime, Disney has announced three untitled Marvel movies scheduled for release in 2028, specifically on February 18, May 5, and November 10. This shift in focus suggests that while Blade is currently on hold, the broader Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) continues to expand its horizons with new projects.
