The second season of Maxton Hall – The World Between Us is now streaming on Prime Video, picking up right where the first season left off. The story continues to follow the complicated relationship between scholarship student Ruby Bell and wealthy heir James Beaufort at an elite private school. For the new season, the show brings back its beloved main cast while introducing several new characters who bring fresh drama and dynamics to the series.

Returning Cast Members

Fans will be happy to see their favorite characters return for the new season. The core cast from season one reprises their roles, continuing the stories that captivated audiences worldwide.

Harriet Herbig-Matten returns as Ruby Bell, the determined scholarship student navigating the challenges of an elite world. Her character faces emotional turmoil as she tries to move on from her relationship with James while still having feelings for him.

Damian Hardung is back as James Beaufort, the privileged heir struggling with grief following his mother’s death and the resulting strain on his relationship with Ruby. Hardung described the second season as “really grim and dark and a lot of grief and trauma,” indicating a more emotional journey for his character.

Other key returning cast members include Sonja WeiรŸer as James’s twin sister Lydia Beaufort, whose own complicated story expands in the new season. Ben Felipe returns as Cyril, Fedja van Huรชt as the intimidating Mortimer Beaufort, and Runa Greiner as Ruby’s sister Ember Bell. Andrea Guo is back as Ruby’s best friend Lin Wang, providing support and a grounded perspective.

Additional returning actors include Justus Riesner as James’s friend Alistair Ellington, Eli Riccardi as Elaine Ellington, and Frederic Balonier as the reliable Kieran Rutherford.

New Cast Members and Characters

Season two introduces several new actors playing characters who bring new conflicts and alliances to the story. These additions expand the world of Maxton Hall and create new challenges for the main characters.

Dagny Dewath joins the cast as Ophelia Beaufort, the younger sister of James and Lydia’s mother Cordelia. Her character has secretly been in contact with her sibling and becomes an ally to Ruby and James.

Proschat Madani plays Alice Campbell, an influential businesswoman who wants to reward Ruby with a private scholarship at Oxford University. Her values become tested by Mortimer Beaufort.

Anna Lucia Gustmann appears as May Clancey, Alice Campbell’s perfectionist assistant, while Basil Eidenbenz plays Frederick Ellington, the older brother of Alistair and Elaine who doesn’t understand why his younger siblings oppose traditions.

Laura de Boer portrays Mortimer Beaufort’s new assistant, whose exacting standards and regular visits to the Beaufort Villa create tension with the twins. Social media star Kiro Ebra plays Forest, a member of British high society who connects with James’s best friend Alistair at a fundraising gala.

A notable recast is Gina Henkel taking over the role of Helen Bell, Ruby’s loving and energetic mother who dreams of owning the bakery where she works. She replaces Julia-Maria Kรถhler, who couldn’t make the shooting schedule work.

Character Arcs and Relationships

The new season explores deeper emotional territory for both main characters. Ruby Bell’s journey focuses on rebuilding her confidence and independence after her painful breakup with James. She wants to return to her old life before she became involved with the elite world of Maxton Hall, but finds this difficult as James tries to win her back.

James Beaufort faces his own struggles with grief, guilt, and identity as he deals with his mother’s death and his responsibilities as the Beaufort heir. His attempts to reconcile with Ruby form a central part of the season’s storyline.

Lydia Beaufort’s character receives more development as her private struggles and complex family relationships take center stage. Her pregnancy with teacher Graham Sutton’s baby, revealed at the end of season one, adds another layer of complication to the Beaufort family dynamics.

The new characters create additional tension and support systems for the main cast. Ophelia Beaufort’s arrival brings family secrets to light, while Alice Campbell’s offer to Ruby creates new opportunities and conflicts. The expanded cast allows for exploration of how the main characters interact with a broader social circle beyond the school setting.

Production Background

Maxton Hall – The World Between Us is a German production based on Mona Kasten’s bestselling YA trilogy. The second season adapts the second book in the series, “Save You.” Despite wrapping filming nearly a year ago, the release was delayed to allow time for what Amazon described as “intensely working on a first class production and music composition for the series, including comprehensive language versions.”

The series is produced by Fremantle-owned UFA Fiction and filmed in Germany, though the story is set in a fictional British private school. The first season became a global phenomenon, occupying the number one spot in Prime Video Charts in more than 120 countries and territories. A third season has already been confirmed, which will be based on the third book in Kasten’s trilogy.

The show continues to explore themes of young love, class differences, and personal identity under pressure. With its mix of romantic drama, family conflicts, and social commentary, Maxton Hall has become one of Prime Video’s most successful international original series.
