Mirzapur Season 3 is all set to premiere on Prime Video today, July 5th, and the excitement is palpable! The series boasts a stellar cast, including Pankaj Tripathi, Vijay Varma, Ali Fazal, Rasika Duggal, and Shweta Tripathi Sharma. While these actors often portray virtuous characters, Mirzapur injects shades of grey into their personas. Actor Vijay Varma, who plays the intriguing character Tyagi in the series, recently opened up about this very aspect.
Varma Embraces the Dark Side
In a recent interview with India Today, the 38-year-old actor, who portrays a double role in Mirzapur, acknowledged his desire to avoid typecasting. However, Varma also recognizes the opportunities that playing dark characters has brought him.
“There weren’t many actors taking on these roles, perhaps due to concerns about image,” he shared. “I’ve been fortunate to find success in this space, and it’s allowed me to explore other complexities in between.” Referencing his characters in Murder Mubarak, Jaane Jaan, and Kalkoot, Varma highlighted his pursuit of portraying diverse characters. “I see myself as an actor who can adapt,” he stated. “Give me a role to play, and I’ll bring it to life.”
From Gully Boy to Mirzapur: A Seamless Transition
The interview also revealed an interesting fact: Varma signed on for Mirzapur’s second season in the same week his film Gully Boy released, both being Excel Entertainment productions. He downplayed the decision as “not brave, but an easy choice.” “As an actor,” he explained, “who wouldn’t jump at the chance to play a double role? Plus, the Mirzapur team was well-established, and the show had a massive fan following.”
Praising Ali Fazal’s Guddu
As part of Team Guddu, Varma commended Ali Fazal’s character development over the seasons. “The impact he’s made is incredible,” Varma expressed, hinting at Guddu’s potential evolution in season 3. “You’ll be blown away by what he’s done this time around.”
Vijay Varma: A Promising Future
Beyond Mirzapur, Varma has a busy schedule. He’s currently filming the Tamil films Suriya 43 and Ul Jalool Ishq. With his talent and willingness to explore diverse roles, Vijay Varma is certainly an actor to watch in the years to come.
