The latest episode of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters pulled off a clever trick that left both the characters in the show and viewers wondering what was really happening. Episode 4, titled “Trespass,” arrived on Apple TV on March 19 in the US and March 20 globally, and it delivered something unexpected—a Titan alert that turned out to be completely false.
The episode follows Shaw and the team as they plan a risky break-in at Apex Cybernetics to get back Hiroshi’s device. But the bigger story revolves around a supposed Titan heading straight for San Francisco. Monarch scrambled to prepare for another disaster like the one that destroyed the city years ago. The tension built as the clock ticked down, with officials warning of an arrival within 24 hours.
When the moment came, nothing happened. The tracking signal that everyone believed was a massive Titan turned out to be a whale.
A Plan That Falls Apart at Apex
While Monarch tracked the false threat, Shaw and the team worked on their own mission. The group needed to sneak into an Apex facility to recover Hiroshi’s stolen device. The plan involved several steps—staging a fake fight at a bar, having Kurt Russell’s character fake a heart attack to distract an employee, and using May’s inside access to trigger an alarm that would clear the building.
The team wore hazmat suits and posed as a cleanup crew. But once inside, they discovered the device was already dismantled. Apex had taken it apart and was using pieces for their own research. The facility also held captured creatures from Skull Island, kept in containment.
Kiersey Clemons, who plays May, found herself in a difficult position. Her boss at Apex, Karen Holland, confronted her during the break-in. Instead of exposing May, Holland brought her deeper into the company’s operations. She showed May a neural control system that could manipulate Titan behavior. A small chip implanted in a winged creature allowed them to control its actions instantly.
Holland explained that May’s coding skills could help stabilize this system. May made a choice to stay at Apex, believing she could influence what happens from inside.
The Big Twist That Fooled Everyone
Back at Monarch’s Outpost 18, preparations continued for the Titan’s arrival. Teams expected a major fight. But Tim, who had taken charge of the situation, ordered a shutdown of Apex’s tracking systems to double-check the data.
What they found changed everything. The signal they had been following for hours did not belong to a Titan. The radar was tracking a whale.
The discovery showed that Apex had manipulated the data. The company created a false threat to keep Monarch busy while they continued their own work. The supposed attack on San Francisco was never going to happen.
Finding Bill Randa’s Work
After realizing they had been tricked, the team regrouped. Lee Shaw and Hiroshi found a wall covered in Bill Randa’s research. The material showed Titan migration patterns and included a detailed map. Apex had known where the real Titan threat was heading all along.
Hiroshi also found a box with his father’s journal and a childhood photo. Inside the journal was a letter written by Keiko years earlier. This discovery brings old family secrets back into the open and will likely create new tensions in future episodes.

What the Episode Reveals About Apex
The fourth episode makes clear that the biggest danger in this season may not come from Titans. Apex Cybernetics is shown as a company that wants to control these creatures rather than just study or contain them. Their work on neural implants and their willingness to fake a Titan attack to cover their tracks shows they operate without concern for the consequences.
The episode also connects back to the larger Godzilla universe. The false Titan alert echoes similar moments in the movies where humans misunderstand what they are tracking or face threats they did not expect. It adds another layer to the story by showing that the organization meant to protect people from Titans has been tricked by human enemies.
The episode runs for about 48 minutes and continues the season’s focus on the 2015 timeline, with fewer flashbacks to the past than earlier episodes.
Anna Sawai as Cate, Ren Watabe as Kentaro, and Mari Yamamoto as Keiko all appear in key moments. Wyatt Russell does not appear in this episode, as the focus stays on the present-day storyline with his father, Kurt Russell.
The season has 10 episodes total. Episode 5, titled “Furusato,” is scheduled for March 26 in the US and March 27 globally.
