NCT and NCT 127 have unfollowed former member Moon Taeil on social media following serious sexual crime accusations. This decision comes in the wake of an official statement from SM Entertainment confirming Taeil’s departure from the groups due to the allegations.
SM Entertainment’s Statement
On August 28, 2024, SM Entertainment announced that Moon Taeil has been charged in a criminal case related to sexual offenses. The company stated:
“After gathering the facts and recognizing the gravity of the situation, we have determined that Taeil can no longer remain a part of the team.”
Following discussions, Taeil has agreed to leave NCT and NCT 127. The company emphasized that he is fully cooperating with the ongoing police investigation and promised further updates as the situation develops. They also extended their apologies for any offense caused by their artist.
Social Media Reactions
In light of the allegations, several changes have been observed on social media:
Taeyong, the leader of NCT who is currently serving in the military, has deleted all group photos featuring Taeil. His Instagram account now shows no followers and he follows no one.
Doyoung has also removed Taeil from his following list, and Haechan has similarly unfollowed the former member.
NCT 127 Background
NCT and its sub-unit NCT 127 are popular K-pop groups formed by SM Entertainment. Taeil was a part of NCT since its inception and became a permanent member of NCT 127, which debuted with the mini-album NCT #127. The group’s current lineup includes Taeyong, Yuta, Jaehyun, Mark, Haechan, Doyoung, Jungwoo, and Johnny. Notable tracks from the group include “Cherry Bomb,” “Kick It,” and “Sticker.”
In 2023, NCT 127 released their fifth studio album, Fact Check, and went on their third world tour, Neo City – The Unity. They also premiered a documentary series, NCT 127: The Lost Boys, available for streaming on Disney+.
