SM Entertainment has announced that NCT member Taeil has been removed from the group following allegations of involvement in a sexual crime case.
On August 28, 2024, SM Entertainment released a statement confirming that Taeil has been removed from NCT due to serious allegations related to a sexual crime. The agency has stated that Taeil’s departure was decided after careful consideration and discussions.
“We have confirmed that Taeil has been accused in a criminal case which is related to a sexual crime. Given the severity of the matter, it would no longer be possible for him to continue team activities,” SM Entertainment said in their announcement.
The statement further emphasized that Taeil is cooperating with the ongoing police investigation. SM Entertainment promised to provide additional updates as the investigation progresses.
“Taeil is faithfully participating in the police investigation and we will provide additional statements as the investigation progresses,” the agency added.
SM Entertainment also issued an apology for the controversy caused by this situation.
The details surrounding the alleged offense remain undisclosed. Taeil was recently active with NCT 127, participating in their WALK comeback after a brief hiatus due to a fracture and subsequent surgery.
Taeil initially debuted with NCT U in April 2016 and later with NCT 127 on July 7, 2016, through their debut EP, NCT #127. Since then, NCT 127 has gained global recognition for their innovative hip-hop music, dynamic performances, and intricate choreographies. Their latest comeback, featuring their sixth studio album WALK, was marked by a vibrant music video released on July 15, 2024.
