Netflix has officially approved production for a new Korean drama series, Beauty in the Beast. This fantasy romance will star Kim Min-ju, Lomon, and Moon Sang-min in a modern story about a young werewolf navigating college life. Filming for the series is now underway.
The show is a new interpretation of the classic “Beauty and the Beast” tale, set in a contemporary Korean context. Ha Min-su is a freshman werewolf who has spent years learning to control her instincts to live normally in human society. Her quiet college life becomes complicated when she meets two very different young men, pulling her between hiding her true nature and embracing who she really is.
Main Cast and Character Details
The series features a trio of rising stars from the Korean entertainment industry, each playing a character with a unique connection to the show’s supernatural world.
Kim Min-ju takes on the lead role of Ha Min-su. Known as a former member of the popular K-pop group IZ*ONE, Kim has been building her acting career in series like *The Forbidden Marriage* and Connection. Her character is described as “the most successfully socialized werewolf in history”. Min-su works hard to blend in, avoiding her transformation at all costs. Her main goal is simple: to live her life without harming anyone.
Lomon, whose real name is Park Solomon, plays Lee Do-ha. Fans will recognize him from the global Netflix hit All of Us Are Dead, where he played Lee Su-hyeok. His character Do-ha is also a werewolf, but his approach to life is the opposite of Min-su’s. He lives freely, using his predatory instincts to target drug dealers. Do-ha represents the path of embracing one’s power without fear.
Moon Sang-min portrays Kwon Hae-jun, Min-su’s senior in college. Moon has appeared in Netflix’s Under the Queen’s Umbrella and My Name. Hae-jun is drawn to Min-su, finding her hidden powers intriguing. Described as having “impeccable looks and sociability,” he carries a secret past that slowly comes to light as the story develops.
Storyline and Series Premise
The plot follows Ha Min-su as she starts college, hoping to maintain her carefully constructed human life. After years of rigorous training to suppress her werewolf instincts, she faces the new challenges of university social life and unexpected feelings.
Min-su finds herself caught between two young men who change her world. Kwon Hae-jun offers steady warmth and attraction, while Lee Do-ha represents a free-spirited, unrestrained way of living that challenges her choice to remain hidden. This love triangle unfolds as Min-su balances her human desires with her supernatural constraints.
The series promises to blend romance, thriller, and fantasy elements. It explores themes of identity, self-acceptance, and the pressure to conform, all within the exciting and often chaotic setting of college life.
