The 83rd Golden Globe Awards honored the best in film and television, with two projects emerging as the night’s biggest winners. Netflix’s limited series ‘Adolescence’ and Warner Bros.’ film ‘One Battle After Another’ each secured a leading four awards, setting the stage for the rest of the 2026 awards season.
The ceremony, hosted for a second year by comedian Nikki Glaser, took place on Sunday, January 11, 2026, at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles. The event celebrated projects ranging from historical dramas to animated blockbusters and, for the first time, awarded a prize for podcasts.
Television Winners: ‘Adolescence’ Leads a Strong Field for Netflix
On the television side, Netflix had a powerful night. Its critically acclaimed limited series ‘Adolescence’ swept its categories, winning every award it was nominated for. The show was named Best Television Limited Series, Anthology Series or Motion Picture Made for Television.
The series also claimed all three acting awards in the limited series field. Stephen Graham won for Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Limited Series, while his co-stars Erin Doherty and Owen Cooper won for Best Supporting Actress and Actor on Television, respectively. Cooper’s win made him the second-youngest Golden Globe winner ever, following his historic Emmy win last year.
Other major TV winners included ‘The Pitt’ on HBO Max, which was named Best Television Series โ Drama, and its star Noah Wyle, who won Best Male Actor in a Drama Series. In the comedy field, Apple TV’s ‘The Studio’ won Best Television Series โ Musical or Comedy, and its lead Seth Rogen won the corresponding award for best actor.
Film Winners: A Battle Between Comedy and Drama
The film awards were divided between two major winners. ‘One Battle After Another’, directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, won the most film awards of the night with four. The movie was named Best Motion Picture โ Musical or Comedy, a category decision that sparked some discussion during the broadcast. Anderson also won individual awards for Best Director and Best Screenplay.
The film’s fourth win came from Teyana Taylor, who was honored as Best Supporting Actress for her role. Accepting the first award of the night, Taylor gave a tearful speech.
The top prize for Best Motion Picture โ Drama went to ‘Hamnet’, a fictionalized historical drama about William Shakespeare’s family directed by Chloรฉ Zhao. The film’s star, Jessie Buckley, also won for Best Actress in a Drama Motion Picture. Director Zhao appeared visibly stunned when the winner was announced.
In a notable international victory, Brazilian actor Wagner Moura won Best Male Actor in a Drama Motion Picture for his role in ‘The Secret Agent’, which also won for Best Non-English Language Film. Moura is the first Brazilian actor to win in this category.
