The Netflix drama Adolescence was the top winner at the 2025 Rose dโOr Awards, taking home the eventโs highest honor, the Golden Rose, along with awards for Best Drama and Emerging Talent. The ceremony celebrated television and audio programming from around the world, with winners from Belgium, Japan, Norway, and Brazil, and special honors for the cast of HBO Spain’s Furia and veteran British actor Anne Reid.
The 64th annual ceremony was held on Monday, December 1, 2025, at Kings Place in London. The event was hosted by comedian Dara ร Briain and brought together hundreds of producers and executives from the global television industry. Winners were chosen from over 600 program submissions across 30 different countries.
Major Winners and Special Awards
Adolescence, a Netflix series from the UK that explores the complex lives of teenagers in the digital age, was the night’s biggest story. It won the Golden Rose, which is given to the program judged to have made the most outstanding contribution of the year. The show’s young star, Owen Cooper, also received the Emerging Talent of the Year award for his performance.
The judging panel had high praise for the series. They called it an “extraordinary, sector-changing achievement” and “simply the show of the year”.
When accepting the Golden Rose, co-creator Jack Thorne spoke about the show’s difficult subject matter.
“This is a show that attempted to look at something quite complicatedโฆ We are conducting a giant science experiment with immature brains, and some teenagers will be profoundly affected by the loneliness and toxicity of the online space,” Thorne said.
“If you have any sort of powerโฆ please check that the teenagers you are responsible for are OKโฆ The idea that we provoked a bit of talk on people’s sofas with Adolescence means the world”.
In the special awards categories, the Performance of the Year Award went to the entire ensemble cast of the HBO Spain comedy-drama Furia (Rage). Actress Carmen Machi, accepting the award, highlighted the team effort.
“There is nothing more rewarding than receiving an award together with all your castmates, because teamwork is what makes it work”.
The Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to British actor Anne Reid, whose career spans more than six decades. She is known for early roles in Coronation Street and later work in series like Last Tango in Halifax. Writer Sally Wainwright, who has worked with Reid, paid tribute to her unique skill.
“Annie has that extraordinary quality of realness that so few actors haveโฆ You can’t see her acting โ she just is,” Wainwright said.

The History and Significance of the Awards
The Rose d’Or, or Golden Rose, was first established in 1961 in Montreux, Switzerland. It was created by Marcel Bezenรงon, who also founded the Eurovision Song Contest, with the original goal of helping European broadcasters swap programs to fill their summer schedules. The awards have been organized by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) for most of their history and have grown from a small European event into a major international competition.
The categories have evolved significantly over time. In 2014, the awards were expanded to include radio and online video programs for the first time, moving beyond just television. The current 13 entry categories are designed to cover the full range of modern entertainment, from traditional drama and comedy to social media series and podcasts.
Jean Philip De Tender, from the European Broadcasting Union, presented the Golden Rose and spoke about the importance of the winning programs.
“This year’s submissions highlight the power of our industry to reflect the lives of diverse communities and offer audiences stories they can trust,” he said.
“The work honoured tonight shows a shared commitment to storytelling with genuine purpose”.
Mark Rowland, the Chair of the Rose dโOr, congratulated all the entrants and winners, noting the increasing quality of submissions each year. The complete list of winners for all categories is available on the official Rose d’Or website.
