A deadly bouncy castle accident and a wrongful murder twist a community into knots. This is the core mystery of Netflix’s thriller series The Accident. After a child’s birthday party turns fatal, the housekeeper Moncho is quickly blamed, arrested, and then killed in his jail cell. The show’s central whodunit, which unfolds over its first season, reveals a surprising killer and a chain reaction of revenge that continues into the recently released second season.
The Tragic Accident That Started It All
The story begins with a celebration. Emiliano Lobo, a successful lawyer, is hosting a birthday party for his young son, Rodrigo. The kids are playing in a bouncy castle while the adults socialize. However, a strong gust of wind hits the party. Because the bouncy castle was not properly secured to the ground, it lifts into the air with the children still inside.
The incident results in the deaths of three children: Emiliano’s son Rodrigo, Lupita and Charro’s son Gabriel, and Brenda’s son Mateo. Another child, Fabián’s daughter, goes missing. The community is shattered by grief, and the desperate search for someone to blame begins almost immediately.
Moncho, Emiliano’s housekeeper, becomes the primary target. He was initially seen working on securing the bouncy castle. It is later revealed that Emiliano, distracted by an important business call, told Moncho to leave the task and fetch ice instead, promising he would finish it himself. Emiliano never properly completed the job, leading directly to the tragedy.
Despite knowing his own guilt, Emiliano remains silent. The community’s rage, particularly from the grieving parents Charro and Lupita, focuses entirely on the easier target: their employee, Moncho.
Moncho’s Fate and the Poison in a Jail Cell
Moncho suffers severely for a crime he did not commit. He is violently beaten and his home is set on fire in an attempt to harm his family. He is then wrongfully arrested and sent to jail for his alleged negligence.
While imprisoned, he becomes the target of two separate murder plots. The first comes from Charro, who hires a guard to strangle Moncho. This attempt fails. The second plot is successful. A man named Eulogio Pinto, also known as Barroso, visits Moncho’s cell pretending to be his lawyer. He speaks kindly to Moncho and offers him food. Unknowingly, Moncho eats the poisoned meal and dies shortly after.
For much of the season, the identity of the person who hired Eulogio remains a mystery, with suspicion falling on both Charro and Emiliano. The truth is finally exposed in the finale.
Lupita, Charro’s wife and Gabriel’s mother, was the one who financed the hit on Moncho. She hired Eulogio to kill the man she believed was responsible for her son’s death.
Lupita was unaware of Emiliano’s confession at the time she ordered the hit. By the time the full truth came out, Moncho was already dead. Her actions set off a new cycle of violence. Eulogio later blackmailed her for more money. To silence him, Lupita met him at their son’s grave and gave him a poisoned apple, killing him just as she had arranged for Moncho’s death.
The Aftermath and Season 2’s Cycle of Revenge
The consequences of Moncho’s murder extended far beyond the first season’s finale. His death created ripples of vengeance that defined the show’s second season, which premiered on Netflix on December 10, 2025.
Moncho’s widow, Yolanda (Yola), never forgot who killed her husband. While Emiliano helped her and her children relocate to the United States after the tragedy, her desire for justice remained. In the second season, with Lupita now imprisoned for other crimes, Yola finally exacts her revenge. She visits Lupita in prison and gives her poisoned chocolate, mirroring the method Lupita used to kill Moncho. Lupita dies from the poison, completing the tragic cycle.
Lupita’s son, Alex, who had testified against his mother in court, is left orphaned by her death. Meanwhile, the conflict between Emiliano and Charro reached its own violent conclusion in prison, ending with Charro’s death.
The series shows how a single moment of negligence can unravel countless lives, transforming grief into blame, and blame into an unstoppable chain of retaliation.
