Netflix’s hit Korean reality show The Devil’s Plan is back with a thrilling second season titled The Devil’s Plan: Death Room. The show brings together 14 brilliant contestants who must outsmart each other in intense strategy games to win a grand prize of 500 million won (about $350,000). This season promises tougher challenges, unexpected twists, and fierce competition.

The show, created by producer Jung Jong-yeon (known for The Genius and The Great Escape), is not a typical reality series. Instead, it tests intelligence, teamwork, and deception through complex puzzles, social deduction games, and high-stakes battles of logic. Contestants include Olympiad winners, poker champions, actors, doctors, and even a retired Go legend.

The Contestants: A Mix of Geniuses and Celebrities

The new season features a diverse lineup of players, each with unique skills. Here are some of the standout contestants:

Lee Se-dol – A legendary professional Go player who famously defeated Google’s AI, AlphaGo, in 2016. After retiring in 2019, he joins the show for his first non-Go competition.

Justin H. Min – The Korean-American actor from The Umbrella Academy and Beef brings his sharp mind to the game.

Kyuhyun – A Super Junior member and variety show star known for his wit and charm.

Kang Ji-young – A former news anchor with a background in journalism and a sharp eye for details.

Yoon So-hee – An actress and biochemical engineer from KAIST, blending creativity with analytical thinking.

7high (Jung Seung-mook) – A professional poker player and music producer who thrives in high-pressure situations.

Lee Seung-hyunMiss Korea 2022 and an economics graduate, proving beauty and brains go hand in hand.

Chuu (Kim Ji-woo) – A former LOONA member and solo artist who brings energy and unpredictability.

Park Sang-yeon – A medical student and Physics Olympiad gold medalist, the youngest contestant at 22.

Son Eun-yoo – A corporate lawyer specializing in high-stakes negotiations.

The show also features Jeong Hyun-gyu (a Seoul National University student), Choi Hyun-joon (a KAIST student and model), Kim Ha-rin (a plastic surgeon), and Tinno (a board game YouTuber).

How the Game Works

Unlike typical reality shows, The Devil’s Plan is a mix of strategy, alliances, and betrayal. Contestants live together in a controlled environment, cut off from the outside world. They compete in two types of matches:

  • Main Match – A competitive challenge where the weakest performers face elimination or imprisonment.
  • Prize Match – A team-based game where players work together to increase the final prize money.

Players use “Pieces” as currency—losing all means elimination. The final winner takes home the entire prize pot.

What Makes This Season Different?

Season 2, Death Room, introduces new traps, secret mechanisms, and psychological twists. Contestants must navigate shifting alliances, hidden clues, and surprise eliminations. The games are tougher, testing memory, logic, and social manipulation.

“I wanted to see how far I could go outside of Go,” said Lee Se-dol about joining the show.

“It’s like a thriller movie—every move changes the game,” said a fan in an online review.
