NJZ Shares News of Temporary Hiatus Following a Court Decision, Leaving Fans Curious About the Future

NJZ, the K-pop group formerly known as NewJeans, has announced a temporary hiatus following a recent court decision that prohibits them from pursuing independent activities under their new name. The five membersโ€”Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyeinโ€”shared this news with fans during their performance at ComplexCon in Hong Kong on March 23, 2025, marking a bittersweet moment as they headlined the event amidst ongoing legal challenges.

The announcement came at the close of their set on the final day of ComplexCon, a significant event for K-pop fans globally. Hanni addressed the audience, stating:

“We will be pausing all our activities from now on.”

Haerin followed, adding:

“It is with heavy hearts that we share this news, as this stage may be our last for the time being.”

The members acknowledged the difficulty of the decision, emphasizing their respect for the court’s ruling. They explained that while it was not an easy choice, they believe it was necessary under the current circumstances.

The court’s decision stems from a legal dispute with ADOR, NJZ’s former agency and a subsidiary of HYBE Corporation. In November 2024, NJZ terminated their exclusive contracts with ADOR, citing mistreatment and a toxic work environment. They rebranded as NJZ with plans to operate independently. However, on March 21, 2025, the Seoul Central District Court granted ADOR’s provisional injunction, blocking NJZ from using their new name for independent activities, citing potential damage to ADOR’s reputation.

Despite this setback, NJZ chose to honor their commitment to fans by performing at ComplexCon. During the event, they debuted a new song titled “PIT STOP” and refrained from using any group name, reflecting the legal constraints they now face. The performance was a testament to their dedication, even as they prepare to step back temporarily.

Offering hope to their fans, affectionately known as Bunnies, the members promised a stronger return. In a heartfelt message, they assured supporters that this hiatus is not the end, signaling their determination to overcome the challenges ahead.

The legal battle with ADOR is ongoing, with a hearing on the validity of their contracts scheduled for April 3, 2025. Entertainment and legal experts have weighed in, suggesting that the court’s injunction favoring ADOR could provide long-term stability for the group, though NJZ remains committed to fighting for their independence.

As NJZ takes this pause, their fans have rallied behind them, expressing both sadness and encouragement. The groupโ€™s resilience and promise to return stronger have left a lasting impression, with all eyes now on the upcoming legal proceedings that could shape their future.
