Fans of the hit comedy mystery series have reason to celebrate. Hulu has officially confirmed that Only Murders in the Building will return for a sixth season. The announcement came on October 28, 2025, the same day the Season 5 finale was released. In a major shift for the show, the next season will take its three main sleuths from New York City to London to solve a new case.

The core trio of Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez are all set to reprise their roles for the new chapter. The upcoming season will consist of 10 episodes, continuing the show’s format. This renewal follows the show’s consistent success as one of Hulu’s top-performing original comedies.

The New Mystery and Location

The biggest news for the next season is the change of scenery. For the first time, Only Murders in the Building will film overseas. The show’s beloved crime-solving podcast team will be leaving the iconic Arconia apartment building in New York to investigate a new mystery in London.

The Season 5 finale set the stage for this international adventure. The final scenes revealed a new potential victim connected to a UK-based mystery. The victim appears to be Cinda Canning, the podcaster played by Tina Fey, who originally inspired the main trio to start their own podcast. The finale showed the characters listening to Cinda’s new podcast, “The Girl With the Curls,” which focuses on a suspect in the murder of a royal descendant in London.

The Returning Cast and Characters

While the show is known for its star-studded guest casts, the heart of the series remains its three leads. Steve Martin as Charles-Haden Savage, Martin Short as Oliver Putnam, and Selena Gomez as Mabel Mora are all confirmed to return for the investigation in London.

It is also highly expected that other familiar faces from the Arconia will be back, such as Michael Cyril Creighton as Howard Morris. The show has featured a wide array of talented actors in past seasons, including Meryl Streep, Nathan Lane, and Da’Vine Joy Randolph, though specific guest stars for Season 6 have not yet been announced.

Behind the Scenes and Showrunner’s Vision

The series was co-created by Steve Martin and John Hoffman, with Hoffman serving as the showrunner. The executive production team includes Martin, Hoffman, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez, among others. The show comes from 20th Television.

In a recent interview, showrunner John Hoffman shared his excitement for the London setting and the narrative possibilities it opens. He indicated that Season 6 will look at the origins of the detective genre itself.

“It all came together as wanting to look at origins for both the storytelling nature of what is at the source through the Agatha Christies and Arthur Conan Doyles and on and on, and on to podcasting today and that line between them,” Hoffman said. “With Cinda, we have someone in the lexicon of the show who is the beginning of the legacy for our trio. How does that extend further for the legacy of this endeavor of storytelling within this realm of murder mystery?”

Fan Excitement and Reaction

The news of the renewal and the London move was met with immediate excitement from the show’s dedicated fan base. Shortly after the official announcement, star Selena Gomez shared the news with her followers on Instagram.

“Well, looks like our fam is going to London y’all,” Gomez wrote on her Instagram story. She also expressed her gratitude, adding, “I want to thank our community and fans of @onlymurdershulu for allowing us to even have a season 6! We are eternally grateful we can bring any of you any sort of joy. My deepest gratitude from Steve, Marty and myself.”

Online discussions and social media posts have been buzzing with speculation about how Charles, Oliver, and Mabel will adapt to London and what new characters they might meet in the British capital.
