Oscar Isaac has delivered a disappointing update for fans hoping for a second season of Moon Knight. In a recent interview, the actor expressed a strong reluctance to work with Disney, the parent company of Marvel Studios, throwing the future of the show into serious question. Isaac does not have a long-term contract with Marvel, making his participation essential for the series to continue.

What Oscar Isaac Said About Working With Disney

Speaking to GQ Magazine, Oscar Isaac was asked about the possibility of returning to his role as Poe Dameron in the Star Wars franchise. His response, however, had immediate and grave implications for his future as Moon Knight in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

He stated, “Right now I’m not so open to working with Disney. But if they can kinda figure it out and, you know, not succumb to fascism, that would be great.” He added that if that were to happen, he would be open to conversations about a “galaxy far away” or other projects.

The interview was conducted just two days after ABC, a network owned by Disney, temporarily took Jimmy Kimmel Live! off the air. This context suggests Isaac’s comments were a direct reaction to that event and the surrounding controversy. His blunt remarks clarify that he is not currently interested in being involved in any Disney-led projects.

The Direct Impact on Moon Knight’s Future

Unlike many actors in the MCU, Oscar Isaac did not sign a long-term contract with Marvel for his role. This means his return is not guaranteed and is entirely his own choice. Without his involvement, the prospects for Moon Knight Season 2 appear very slim.

The show was a critical success when it debuted on Disney+ in 2022, earning an 86% rating from critics and an 88% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. Isaac’s performance was widely praised for its depth and his portrayal of the main character’s multiple identities, Marc Spector and Steven Grant. The first season’s ending also teased the arrival of a third alter, Jake Lockley, setting up a clear path for a continuation that may now never be realized.

Marvel executives have also indicated that a second season is not part of their current plans. Earlier this year, Marvel Television head Brad Winderbaum explained that shows like Moon Knight were part of a wave designed to establish characters for the wider MCU, and that the studio’s priorities for television have since shifted.

How Fans Have Reacted

The news has been a letdown for supporters of the series. At a recent fan convention, a video captured an exchange where a fan asked Isaac if Moon Knight Season 2 was confirmed. The actor simply replied that it was “not confirmed,” agreeing with the fan that he too would like to see it happen. This informal update has been shared across social media platforms, with many fans expressing their disappointment online.

While Isaac did recently voice Marc Spector in an episode of the animated series What If…? in 2024, his recent comments make a return in a major live-action project or a second season seem unlikely for the foreseeable future. For now, the future of Moon Knight in the MCU is on hold, dependent on a reconciliation between the actor and the studio.
