The actor, who plays Joel Miller in HBO’s The Last of Us, “Pedro Pascal” won the Male TV Star of the Year and the Drama TV Star of the Year awards.
The People’s Choice Awards 2024
The People’s Choice Awards 2024 was a star-studded event that celebrated the best of entertainment and pop culture. The ceremony, hosted by Simu Liu, took place at the Barker Hanger in Santa Monica, California, on February 19, 2024. The winners were decided by the fans, who voted online for their favorite movies, TV shows, music, and celebrities.
Some of the highlights of the night included Jennifer Aniston winning the Best Drama TV Star for The Morning Show, Adam Sandler receiving the People’s Icon Award, Lenny Kravitz getting the Fashion Icon Award, and Billie Eilish taking home the TV Performance of the Year for Swarm.
Pedro Pascal’s Male TV Star of the Year Award
One of the most anticipated awards of the night was the Male TV Star of the Year, which had a strong lineup of nominees. Pedro Pascal, who recently landed a role in The Fantastic Four as MCU’s Reed Richards, emerged victorious for his portrayal of Joel Miller in HBO’s The Last of Us. The show, based on the popular video game of the same name, follows the journey of Joel and Ellie, two survivors of a post-apocalyptic world infected by a deadly fungus.
Pedro Pascal beat out Kieran Culkin (Succession), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Samuel L. Jackson (Secret Invasion), Steve Martin (Only Murders in the Building), Chase Stokes (Outer Banks), Jason Sudeikis (Ted Lasso), and Jeremy Allen White (The Bear) to claim the trophy.
Pedro Pascal’s Acceptance Speech
Pedro Pascal was not present at the ceremony, as he was filming Season 2 of The Last of Us on locations in Vancouver. However, he accepted the award via satellite and thanked the fans, the creators, and his co-star Bella Ramsey, who plays Ellie.
“I am in Vancouver right now, I so wish I could be with all of you guys, you have no idea how much I wish I could be with you. I’ll start by recognizing the incredible fortune of having been chosen by the incredible creators of the show, Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, our executive producer Caroline Strauss, and to be with Bella Ramsey leading me through it. Seriously, I wouldn’t have a character without them, and we wouldn’t have a show if it weren’t for our incredible crew, so, a huge shout-out to them.” Pascal said.
“But the biggest fortune is to receive this award on behalf of the people, the fans. At the end of the day, it’s all about you. It’s all we want, is to give you all that we have, to share it all with you, so you have my deepest gratitude.” Pascal added.
Pedro Pascal’s Drama TV Star of the Year Award
Pedro Pascal also won the Drama TV Star of the Year Award, for which he was nominated alongside his co-star Bella Ramsey, Jennifer Aniston, Billy Porter, Elisabeth Moss, Nicole Kidman, Regé-Jean Page, and Sandra Oh. Pascal dedicated his second award to Ramsey, who he called “the heart and soul of the show”.
The Last of Us also won the Best Drama Show of the Year Award, beating Bridgerton, The Crown, The Handmaid’s Tale, Mare of Easttown, The Morning Show, Succession, and This Is Us.
The Last of Us Season 2
The fans of The Last of Us can look forward to Season 2, which is currently in production. The show’s creator Craig Mazin has hinted that the second season may not follow the same story as the video game sequel, but will still surprise and shock the viewers.
“I’m never gonna say there are things that are gonna happen in the show that happened in the game. You never know what we’re gonna do. But I will say that it is the adventure, the journey is the point. There are things that will shock people, things that were in the game, things that were not in the game, and that’s okay. As long as they’re purposeful, they’re not there to just simply shock. We are not interested in creating social media fear. We just want to tell the story the way we think it should be told.” Mazin said in an interview last year.
The first season of The Last of Us is now streaming on Max, while the second season has yet to set a release date.
