Leah Sava Jeffries, the actor who plays Annabeth Chase in the popular Disney+ series, has confirmed that her character has a smaller role in the upcoming third season. The news comes as filming for Season 3 is already underway, even before Season 2 premieres for fans on December 10, 2025. Jeffries explained this change is a direct result of the story moving to adapt the third book in Rick Riordan’s series, The Titan’s Curse, where Annabeth is absent for much of the adventure.

Jeffries shared this detail with fans and reporters at the recent world premiere event for Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2 in Los Angeles. While her character remains central to the overall plot, the structure of the book means she will appear less on screen during the new episodes.

Why Annabeth’s Role is Smaller in The Titan’s Curse

The third season will follow the plot of the book The Titan’s Curse. In this story, Annabeth Chase is missing from a large part of the action because her character is kidnapped early in the quest. The seasonโ€™s main story will focus on Percy Jackson (played by Walker Scobell) and his friends as they work on a dangerous mission to rescue Annabeth and the goddess Artemis. This makes Annabeth’s reduced screen time a necessary part of the faithful book adaptation.

During an interview, Jeffries directly addressed her character’s storyline. “I just have to say episode 1 just because that’s all I’ve filmed,” Jeffries said. “I’m gone. I’m not there, you know what I mean? I’m notโ€”If you read the book, Annabeth is not really there”.

Actor Sees Reduced Filming as a “Break” After Busy Schedule

For Jeffries, the lighter filming schedule for Season 3 comes as a welcome pause. She connected it to the previous year, when production was halted for a long time due to industry strikes, followed by a very quick return to filming both Season 2 and Season 3.

Jeffries said the timing felt like her schedule was finally balancing out. “It is [weird], but at the same time it feels like I’m kind of on a break right now,” she explained. “Remember the huge strike, like the huge break that happened? It was a year long. Then when there was no strike, and we were filming Season 2, and then four months later Season 3, it really didn’t like I stopped filming. So kind of right now, this break is making up for the other time”.

New Gods and Heroes Join the Cast for Season 3

While Annabeth may be less present, Season 3 is introducing several major new characters from Greek mythology. The story will bring in the goddess Artemis, who will be played by Dafne Keen. Her loyal lieutenant, the hunter Zoรซ Nightshade, will be played by Saara Chaudry.

Fans of the books are also excited to meet the di Angelo siblings. The characters Nico and Bianca di Angelo, children of Hades, will be introduced, played by Levi Chrisopulos and Olive Abercrombie. In a fun piece of casting news, Kate McKinnon is set to play the goddess Aphrodite.

Production for the third season officially began on August 8, 2025, in Vancouver, Canada, and is expected to continue filming until early March 2026. The main cast, including Walker Scobell and Aryan Simhadri, will return, alongside other familiar faces like Charlie Bushnell as Luke and Dior Goodjohn as Clarisse.

Looking Ahead to Season 2 Before Season 3 Arrives

Before fans can see how the Titan’s Curse story unfolds, they have the second season to enjoy. Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2 is set to premiere on December 10, 2025, on Disney+ and Hulu. This season adapts the second book, The Sea of Monsters, and will see Annabeth, Percy, his cyclops brother Tyson, and Clarisse embark on a quest to find the Golden Fleece and rescue Grover. New episodes will be released weekly through January 21, 2026.

The series has been a major success for Disney+, with the first season becoming one of the platform’s most-watched shows in 2024. Its popularity led to the very early renewal for a third season, which was announced in March 2025.
