The SBS fantasy legal drama Phantom Lawyer delivered another intense episode on April 3, 2026. Episode 7 brought major changes for both main characters as Han Na-hyeon (played by Esom) walked away from her job at Taebaek Law Firm and Shin Yi-rang (played by Yoo Yeon-seok) realized his ghost-seeing ability has vanished.
The episode shifted focus from supernatural cases to human connections. With no spirits appearing for two weeks, Yi-rang faced empty offices and unpaid bills. Meanwhile, Na-hyeon’s bold decision to quit put her career at risk, forcing her to find clients on her own.
Na-hyeon Takes a Dangerous Case After Leaving Taebaek
The episode started with Yang Do-gyeong (Kim Kyung-nam) scolding Na-hyeon for the damages caused during the last case. The laboratory fire and lost animals from the previous episode’s case left the firm needing to pay compensation. Do-gyeong took disciplinary action, but Na-hyeon chose to quit instead.
Do-gyeong tried to convince her to take a vacation at their New York offices. He believed her decision was just a sudden impulse. Na-hyeon turned him down firmly, saying the Taebaek firm no longer felt the same without the chairman.
Angry about her choice, Do-gyeong told his assistant to block Na-hyeon from getting hired anywhere else. Every law firm she applied to rejected her. During one interview, she found a red cross mark on her application and realized Do-gyeong had sabotaged her chances.
With her savings running out after paying for the laboratory damages and office maintenance fees, Na-hyeon printed business cards and started handing them out at the courthouse. A potential client called her about a construction scam case. The client wanted Na-hyeon to prove his innocence using a vague contract signed by protestors.
Na-hyeon quickly realized the client was part of a dangerous construction gang. Instead of backing away, she played along. She tricked the gang leader into giving her key information, including a fake title deed used to convince buyers. She stepped out, called prosecutor Kim Hyun-woo (Yeon Ji-hyung), and stalled for time.
The gang members attacked her when they figured out her plan. Shin Yi-rang showed up just in time to help her escape. Prosecutor Kim arrived and arrested everyone. Yi-rang got hurt during the fight.
Yi-rang Struggles Without His Supernatural Ability
For almost two weeks, Yi-rang saw no ghosts in his office. He started happy about the silence. He cleaned up his space and prepared to take on living clients instead. But memories of the ghosts he helped kept coming back to him.
His brother-in-law Yun Bong-su (Jeon Seok-ho) told him to market himself at courthouses. Yi-rang tried, but things did not go well. A frustrated woman yelled at him outside a courtroom. He sat on a bench where he used to wait for his father and thought about the past.
A friend passed by and gave Yi-rang a client referral. The friend was too busy with other cases to take it. Yi-rang later found out the client was part of a construction gang. He realized Na-hyeon had already taken the same case and rushed to warn her.
“Whether Yi-rang has truly lost his ability to see ghosts, or a more powerful vengeful spirit is hiding itself, is another key point to watch in Episode 7.” – Phantom Lawyer Production Team
After the gang case ended, Na-hyeon visited Yi-rang at his office. They shared drinks and talked about their pasts. Na-hyeon opened up about her sister So-hyun. She explained that her sister wanted to become a lawyer. When So-hyun died, Na-hyeon blamed herself and decided to live her sister’s dream instead of her own.
Na-hyeon got very drunk. Yi-rang called a driver but did not feel right sending her home alone. He went with her and helped her inside her house. He saw photos of Na-hyeon with her sister and pictures from when she protested outside the courthouse as a young girl.
Yi-rang Makes a Choice to Bring Back the Ghosts
While Na-hyeon slept, she mumbled that she wished Yi-rang could see her sister. That moment changed something for him. He realized he had known how to see ghosts again but had chosen not to. He thought it was better to move on and did not understand how much bereaved families wanted to see their loved ones one last time.
Yi-rang went back to his office. He removed the wallpaper and exposed all the talismans on the walls, including one white talisman that looked different from the others. He lit incense, breathed in the smoke, and fell asleep.
Outside, the taxi driver who brought Yi-rang to the office was Na-hyeon’s father. He called his wife and told her he was sitting outside the shaman’s office they visited after So-hyun died. He felt sad seeing it had become a lawyer’s office.
Inside the office, Yi-rang woke up and saw a new ghost watching the stars. This ghost was different. She did not float above the ground like the others. When she turned around, Yi-rang recognized her face. It was So-hyun, Na-hyeon’s sister.
The white talisman on the wall explained why So-hyun appeared differently. Her case will likely become the next major storyline for the drama.
