A false rumor spread online saying Apple TV+’s hit show Pluribus was cancelled after one season. This is not true. The show, created by Vince Gilligan, has been renewed for a second season and is currently airing its highly successful first season.
The cancellation claim started with a single post on X, formerly Twitter. The post simply stated the show had been cancelled and gained over 1.6 million impressions, causing confusion among fans. At the time, the show was receiving major award nominations, including two Golden Globe Awards for Best Drama Series and Best Actress for Rhea Seehorn. It was also performing very well for Apple TV+, marking the streamer’s biggest drama series launch ever.
The Source of the False Cancellation Rumor
The rumor appears to have been created without any evidence. An X user posted a claim that “PLURIBUS has been cancelled by Apple TV+ after 1 season.”. The post did not link to any official announcement or credible news source.
This false information spread quickly online. It caused worry for fans who are following the complex story of Carol Sturka, a writer trying to save the world from a hive mind virus. The timing was strange because the show was, and still is, in the middle of its first season. New episodes are being released every Friday.
Apple TV+ and the show’s producers have not made any statement about cancelling Pluribus. In fact, all available information points to the opposite.
Official Confirmation and Future Plans
Contrary to the rumor, Apple TV+ has officially ordered a second season of Pluribus. Filming for the new season has not started yet, and a release date has not been announced.
Vince Gilligan, the show’s creator, has discussed his long-term vision for the story. In an interview, he mentioned the series could potentially run for multiple seasons.
“At this point, maybe four seasons, I’m guessing, but who the hell knows?” Gilligan said. He added, “I love to see Pluribus go as long as Rhea Seehorn wants it to go. I am really doing it, as much as anybody, I’m doing it for her.”.
The show’s first season is designed with nine episodes. The season finale is scheduled for release on December 26, 2025. The story’s progression suggests the first season will not answer all the show’s major questions, setting the stage for more story to be told in future seasons.
Current Success and Season 1 Schedule
Pluribus is far from being cancelled; it is one of Apple TV+’s current success stories. According to reports, the show’s debut was the streamer’s most-viewed drama premiere ever. Data from Luminate showed the first two episodes were watched for 6.4 million hours in their first seven days.
The show has also been a hit with critics. It earned a perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes upon its debut, a rare achievement for a new series.
The first season is currently airing. Below is the release schedule for the remaining episodes:
| Ep. | Title | Release Date |
|---|---|---|
| 6 | “HDP” | December 5 |
| 7 | “The Gap” | December 12 |
| 8 | TBA | December 19 |
| 9 | TBA | December 26 |
New episodes are released globally on Fridays on Apple TV+. There was a schedule change around the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday, with Episode 5 releasing early, which temporarily confused some viewers.
What Happens Next in Season 1?
With three episodes left, major questions from the latest episode, “HDP,” will drive the story to its season finale. In Episode 6, Carol traveled to Las Vegas to meet the immune survivor Koumba Diabatรฉ, played by Samba Schutte. There, she received two crucial pieces of information from the hive mind, delivered by a surprising spokesperson.
First, she learned that the Others cannot force the immune individuals to join the hive. The process requires extracting a person’s stem cells, which they cannot do without explicit consent. This changes a key part of the show’s premise, as Carol now knows she is not on a forced timer.
Second, the nature of the hive mind’s food supply was revealed. Because they refuse to harm any life, including plants, they face a future food shortage. To survive, they have been supplementing their diet with Human Derived Protein (HDP), sourced from people who have died of natural causes. As Diabatรฉ explains, even this measure is not a long-term solution, and the global population faces starvation within a decade.
Meanwhile, another immune survivor, Manousos (Carlos-Manuel Vesga), has finally left his isolation in Paraguay after receiving Carol’s video message. The description for the upcoming Episode 7, “The Gap,” states he “begins a dangerous trek to meet Carol”. Fans speculate his journey may involve crossing a perilous jungle region known as the Dariรฉn Gap.
The final episode of the season airs on December 26, 2025. Viewers will be looking to see if the season ends on a cliffhanger, which would be a strong indicator of the continuing story planned for the already-confirmed Season 2.
