Rhea Seehorn has big hopes for her new Apple TV series, Pluribus. The actress, who leads the sci-fi drama, says she wants to play her character Carol for a very long time. After the success of the first season and a renewal for a second, Seehorn has openly shared her dream for the show to continue for up to ten seasons.

The wish comes from her deep connection to the complex character created by Vince Gilligan and her trust in the creative team. While creator Vince Gilligan has talked about a shorter plan, Seehorn’s enthusiasm points to a bright future for the unique series about individuality in a world of forced unity.

Seehorn’s Big Hope for the Show’s Future

Speaking with Variety, Rhea Seehorn did not hold back her long-term hopes for Pluribus. When asked about future seasons, she gave a straightforward answer about her desires.

โ€œI don’t know, I wish I did, and I hope it’s like 10 seasons,โ€ Seehorn told the outlet. She added, โ€œWhatever works for Vinceโ€.

This comment shows her commitment to the project and her character, Carol Sturka. Seehorn explained that the creative team is already at work on the next chapter, though she is keeping herself in the dark about the details.

โ€œThey are in the writers’ room right now writing Season 2,โ€ she confirmed. Regarding the upcoming season one finale, she noted, โ€œIn the finale, very big things happen, but I don’t even know what happens with them or because of themโ€.

This approach lets her experience the story’s twists much like the audience, preserving her authentic reactions.

What Creator Vince Gilligan Has Planned

While Seehorn dreams of a decade-long story, the show’s creator has a different vision for the series’ roadmap. Vince Gilligan, the mind behind Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, currently sees a shorter path for Pluribus.

Reports indicate that Gilligan envisions the story spanning perhaps three seasons. He has spoken about the challenge of knowing when a story should end.

โ€œThe biggest trick in this job is knowing when to leave the party,โ€ Gilligan told ScreenRant.

Despite this shorter plan, there is a strong foundation for continuation. Apple TV+ initially ordered the show with a two-season commitment. Furthermore, some reports suggest Gilligan has indicated the show’s length could depend on Seehorn’s own interest, calling her desire for ten seasons a “positive news” for the future.

Why Seehorn Loves Playing Carol

Rhea Seehorn’s desire to continue for many seasons stems from her passion for the role. She has called the opportunity to play Carol a “great gift”. The character is a romance novelist who becomes one of the last unconnected humans after an alien virus merges most of humanity into a peaceful, shared consciousness known as “the Joining”.

Seehorn connects deeply with Carol’s defense of individual thought and emotion. She has said she would personally be “Team Carol” in the show’s central conflict.

โ€œI would absolutely be Team Carol as far as arguing the necessity and the positives of individual thinking,โ€ Seehorn said. She explained that in a world of group think, โ€œThere’s never going to be a joke that you haven’t heard. There’s never going to be a surprise behavior that makes you laugh. And that’s just such a source of joy for meโ€.

She appreciates that the show, through Carol, argues that all emotions are important, not just happiness. This complexity is what she hopes to keep exploring. She told Deadline she wants โ€œto just keep getting to play with the complexity and the incredible authenticity of how human heโ€™s allowing her to beโ€.

Current Status and What Comes Next

Production for the next season is in its early stages. The writers’ room for Season 2 is currently active. However, filming has not yet begun. Based on the long production timeline of the first season, industry reports suggest Season 2 will likely start filming next year. A release is tentatively expected in late 2027 or early 2028.

The first season, which carries a reported budget of $15 million per episode, required extensive production and post-production work. This process was lengthened by the 2023 Hollywood industry strikes. A similar commitment to quality for the second season suggests a comparable timeline.

Fans still have more of the first story to see. The Season 1 finale of Pluribus is scheduled to arrive on December 26, 2025. The finale is expected to set the stage for the already-confirmed second season.
