Rhea Seehorn, known for her role in Better Call Saul, learned how to golf for her new show Pluribus. The actress, who stars as the lead in creator Vince Gilligan’s latest Apple TV series, had never played the sport before. She took lessons to make her performance look real for specific scenes.

Pluribus premiered on November 7, 2025, and has become Apple TV’s most-watched drama launch ever. The show mixes science fiction, dark comedy, and drama. Seehorn plays Carol Sturka, a successful author who becomes the world’s most unhappy person after a strange global event.

Rhea Seehorn’s Quick Golf Training for the Role

During a behind-the-scenes interview, Vince Gilligan asked Seehorn if she really took golf lessons for the show. Her reply was simple and direct.

“I did. I took golf lessons, not as many as I needed but I took as many as I could,” said Seehorn.

Her teacher was golf instructor Tracey Ivie. With only a short time to prepare, Seehorn focused on learning just the basics needed for filming. She did not try to become an expert golfer. Her main goals were to learn the correct stance and how to hit the ball consistently. She joked about her skill level, agreeing that the word “golfing” for her should be in quotation marks.

“I was able to do the stance fairly well and hit the ball instead of missing it every time,” she explained. This was enough to make her scenes look believable for the camera.

Inside the World of Pluribus on Apple TV

Pluribus is a major new series for Apple TV. The story begins when scientists receive a mysterious signal from space containing a recipe for a virus. When this virus is accidentally released, it spreads across the world. It transforms almost everyone into a peaceful, happy hive mind called “the Others”.

Seehorn’s character, Carol Sturka, is one of only twelve people immune to this change. The show’s official description calls her “the most miserable person on Earth” who “must save the world from happiness”. Carol prefers her own difficult feelings to the forced peacefulness that has taken over humanity.

The idea for the show came to Vince Gilligan years ago while he was working on Better Call Saul. He originally thought of a male lead but later rewrote the part specifically for Rhea Seehorn. He told her, “I wrote something for you if you’re interested.” Seehorn immediately said yes.

A Record-Breaking Premiere for Apple TV

The secretive marketing and unusual story did not stop audiences from watching. Pluribus broke the record for the biggest global drama series launch in Apple TV history. It beat the previous record held by Severance.

The first two episodes were released together on November 7, 2025. New episodes come out weekly every Friday. The season finale is scheduled for December 26, 2025. The strong launch shows high interest in Gilligan’s first major project since the Breaking Bad universe and Seehorn’s first leading role after Better Call Saul.

What Critics and Seehorn Say About the Show

Critics have praised the show, calling it a perfect vehicle for Rhea Seehorn’s talents. The New York Times described it as “as big as modern TV gets: high-budget, high-concept”.

Seehorn herself has teased the show’s wild and unpredictable nature. In an interview, she described her reaction to reading the scripts.

“It’s bananas, it’s bonkers. The dark comedy elements that [Vince] was introducing, it’s horrifying and terrifying, and yet it made me laugh,” Seehorn said.

She added that the show constantly twists audience expectations, starting as one type of story and transforming into another.

The series was filmed in Albuquerque, New Mexico, a familiar location for Gilligan’s projects. However, the team was careful to avoid shooting in places recognizable from Breaking Bad or Better Call Saul. Gilligan even noted, “it was important that Rhea Seehorn didn’t have a ponytail,” to distinguish Carol from her famous role as Kim Wexler.
