Former NCT member Taeil is currently under investigation by the police for alleged involvement in a sexual crime, leading to his departure from the popular K-pop group. The Bangbae Police Station has issued an official statement addressing the ongoing investigation, which has garnered significant attention.
Investigation Details Revealed by Police
On August 28, 2024, the Bangbae Police Station confirmed that they are investigating the allegations against Taeil. The authorities have made it clear that the allegations do not involve minors of the same gender as Taeil, a clarification that has been crucial given the sensitive nature of the case.
“The investigation is ongoing, and the case involves allegations of sexual crimes, but it does not involve same-sex minors,” stated Lee In Chun, Director of the Youth and Women’s Division at Bangbae Police Station.
Lee In Chun also mentioned that further details regarding the case are expected to be available by August 29, 2024, as she was only able to review the information after returning home from work.
SM Entertainment’s Official Statement
In response to the allegations, SM Entertainment released an official statement on the same day, acknowledging the charges against Taeil and the severity of the situation. The company expressed that after gathering the necessary information, it was decided that Taeil would no longer be part of NCT. Taeil has been cooperative with the ongoing investigation and has chosen to step down from his role in the group.
“After thorough discussions with Taeil and considering the gravity of the situation, he has decided to leave the group,” stated SM Entertainment. “We deeply apologize for any offense caused by our artist.”
