Priyanka Chopra Jonas is finally giving straight answers about the future of her expensive Prime Video spy series Citadel. In a new interview, the actress confirmed that Season 2 is locked and coming, but when it comes to what happens after that—Season 3, more spinoffs, or an ending—she is completely in the dark. Her honest update arrives as Amazon officially cancels both international spinoffs and squeezes the entire franchise into one single season dropping in 2026.

Priyanka’s Honest Answer: Season 2 Is Certain, Everything Else Is A Question Mark

Priyanka Chopra Jonas sat down with Variety and gave a rare, unfiltered status report on the spy thriller that turned heads for its massive budget and action sequences. Her message was clear: Season 2 is finished and ready, but the road beyond that is blank.

“We have Season 2, for sure, but the rest? I have no idea.”

The actress admitted she does not even bother asking the producers or the studio about long-term plans anymore. She explained her simple work philosophy regarding the show.

“I don’t ask. I go to work, do my job and I leave.”

This is the first time a lead cast member has spoken so openly about the uncertain state of the franchise. Richard Madden, who plays her spy partner Mason Kane, has not made any public comments about the show’s future past Season 2. Stanley Tucci, who plays Bernard Orlick, is expected to return for the new episodes.

Citadel Season 2 Release Window: When Is It Coming Out?

Amazon MGM Studios has officially locked a release window for Citadel Season 2. According to Vernon Sanders, Head of Television at Amazon MGM Studios, the new season will drop globally on Prime Video in Q2 2026.

That places the debut somewhere between April and June 2026. This means fans are waiting three full years between seasons. The first season premiered on April 28, 2023.

Streaming release information for global audiences:

  • United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia: Available on Prime Video in Q2 2026 (April–June). Exact date to be announced.
  • India: Available on Prime Video simultaneously with global launch. English and Hindi audio options will be available.
  • Other global regions: Available on Prime Video day-and-date worldwide.

The season is currently in post-production. Filming wrapped in late 2024. Earlier reports suggested a fall 2025 release, but that was pushed back. Amazon has not given an exact calendar date yet.

What Happens In Citadel Season 2? Official Story Details

Amazon has released the official logline for the upcoming season. The story picks up one month after the ending of Season 1.

The Citadel spies are now living underground. Manticore agents are hunting them across the world. They are forced out of hiding when a new villain emerges. Paulo Braga, a Brazilian billionaire, threatens to release a dangerous piece of technology into the world. The weapon was actually built by Bernard Orlick, Citadel’s own former engineer.

The season will bring in new, unconventional spies to help Nadia and Mason. It will also fold in characters and storylines from the canceled spinoffs Citadel: Diana and Citadel: Honey Bunny.

Big Setback: Both International Spinoffs Canceled

While the main show is moving forward, the grand plan to build a global spy universe is shrinking fast.

Amazon has officially canceled both international offshoot series:

  • Citadel: Diana (Italy) starring Matilda De Angelis
  • Citadel: Honey Bunny (India) starring Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Varun Dhawan

Neither show will get a second season. This decision was confirmed by Vernon Sanders in April 2025. He explained that while both series performed well in their home countries, they did not become global hits. Instead of continuing them separately, Amazon decided to weave their storylines into Season 2 of the main show.

“Having successfully traversed India and Italy, storylines from both Citadel: Honey Bunny and Citadel: Diana will be woven into the upcoming second season of the mothership series Citadel.”

A planned spinoff in Mexico has also been put on hold. No production is currently moving forward on that project.

Why Was Citadel Season 2 Delayed?

The show has faced multiple delays. Reports from The Hollywood Reporter and Deadline confirm that Amazon executives were not happy with early cuts of Season 2. Sources claimed the studio was “unhappy” with what they saw, leading to additional work and a shift from a 2025 release to 2026.

Amazon MGM Studios also went through major leadership changes. Jennifer Salke, the former studio head who personally championed the Citadel franchise, exited her role. With her departure, several big-budget projects she greenlit were reviewed. Some were canceled. Citadel survived, but the delays suggest the studio is being more careful about how it spends money on the franchise.

The first season reportedly cost USD 300 million to make. Each of the six episodes carried a budget near USD 50 million. At the time of its release, it was the second-most-watched new original series outside the U.S. on Prime Video and the fourth-most-watched globally. However, it received mixed reviews from critics and audiences.

Priyanka Chopra Jonas’ Current Work: The Bluff, Varanasi, and More

While the spy series waits for its 2026 return, Priyanka Chopra Jonas is staying very busy. Her next release is the action film The Bluff.

The Bluff premieres globally on Prime Video on February 25, 2026. She stars alongside Karl Urban. Priyanka plays Ercell Bodden, a former pirate known as “Bloody Mary” who left her violent life behind to raise a family in the Cayman Islands. When her past catches up, she must fight to protect her family. The Russo Brothers and Zoe Saldaña serve as executive producers.

She is also currently filming Varanasi, her return to Indian cinema directed by S.S. Rajamouli (RRR, Baahubali). It is a time-traveling epic and her first Telugu-language film in over a decade. She confirmed she requested a dance number in the film and is looking forward to shooting it.

Priyanka also recently wrapped Judgment Day, a comedy with Will Ferrell and Zac Efron directed by Nicholas Stoller.
