Protest Trucks Demand SUGA's Departure from BTS Following DUI Incident

Protest trucks funded by a section of BTS’s official fan club, ARMY, have begun circulating around HYBE’s headquarters in Yongsan as of the morning of August 16 KST. These protest trucks have garnered significant attention, displaying messages that demand SUGA, a member of BTS, leave the group. This protest comes in the wake of SUGA’s recent controversy, where he was booked by police on August 7 for operating an electric scooter while intoxicated.

Messages Displayed on the Protest Trucks Highlight Fans’ Discontent

The protest trucks carried several pointed messages directed at SUGA and HYBE, expressing deep dissatisfaction with the situation. The messages displayed on the trucks included:

VvipTimes 7 scaled
  1. “You told fans to hold their heads high but then went and committed a DUI.”
  2. “Today is D-Day when drunk driver SUGA leaves BTS.”
  3. “You kicked BTS’s 11-year career to the curb. No one drives drunk better than you.”
  4. “7-1=6. ARMY will fill in the gap, so drunk driver SUGA OUT.”
  5. “SUGA is a drunk driver. A criminal should leave the group.”
  6. “Driving under the influence = illegal. Driving a scooter on the sidewalk = illegal. Illegal act + illegal act = SUGA.”
  7. “SUGA, just leave the group of your own will before you disgrace yourself any further.”
  8. “The hand that we held onto, you flung it away.”
  9. “HYBE harbors criminals, while SUGA hides behind his company.”
  10. “#WeEncourage_SUGAsDeparture.”

These messages reflect the anger and frustration felt by certain fans who believe that SUGA’s actions have tarnished the reputation of the group.

Fans Continue to Voice Their Demands Outside HYBE’s Headquarters

The protest trucks are not the first demonstration by ARMY members demanding SUGA’s departure. Earlier this week, on August 13 KST, fans stationed 20 flower wreaths in front of the HYBE building, echoing the same demand for SUGA to leave BTS. The flower wreaths were symbolic, carrying strong messages that questioned HYBE’s management of the situation and called for accountability from the company and the artist.

This protest highlights the ongoing tensions between BTS’s fanbase and HYBE regarding the incident. As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen how the company will respond to the demands of these fans.
