The third season of “Reasonable Doubt“ concluded with an emotional finale that brought a tragic end to a major character and unveiled the truth behind a central murder mystery. The episode, titled “On to the Next One,” streamed on Hulu on November 13, 2025, and delivered several major twists that will reshape the series moving forward.
Defense lawyer Jax Stewart successfully secured a not guilty verdict for her client, former child star Ozzie Edwards, who was accused of murdering his girlfriend, Wendy. However, the legal victory was short-lived, as Ozzie met a tragic end just hours after his acquittal.
The Outcome of Ozzie’s Murder Trial
Throughout the season, Jax worked to prove that Ozzie did not kill his girlfriend. The prosecution built a strong case, arguing that Ozzie’s drug addiction led him to shoot Wendy and leave her body at a family cabin.
In court, Jax presented a powerful closing argument, exposing how Ozzie’s talent manager, Monica, had abused him since he was 13 years old. She demonstrated that this long-term trauma was the root of his addiction and that he was incapable of murder in his drug-fueled state. The jury found Ozzie not guilty, and the court acquitted him of all charges.
Ozzie Edwards’ Tragic Fate
Despite the legal victory, Ozzie’s story did not end in the courtroom. After the verdict, Jax arranged for Ozzie to enter a rehabilitation facility, hoping to help him achieve true recovery. She saw him as her own child and wanted him to get proper care.
However, faced with the prospect of returning to rehab, Ozzie became scared. In a final, tragic turn, he turned to drugs one last time. He was found unresponsive in Jax’s home just as the rehab transporters arrived. Medics attempted to revive him, but Ozzie died from an overdose.
The Real Killer of Wendy Is Unmasked
Ozzie’s death motivated Jax to find the complete truth about Wendy’s murder. While Ozzie’s sister, Kristin, had initially confessed to the crime, Jax sensed she was covering for someone else.
The investigation revealed that Sal, Ozzie’s father, was Wendy’s actual killer. Sal had disapproved of his son’s relationship with Wendy and created a fake video suggesting she was unfaithful, which caused a major fight between the couple. When Wendy went to the Edwards family home to confront Sal, he hit her during an argument. She banged her head on a table and began bleeding heavily.
While Wendy was still alive, Sal enlisted Kristin to help move her unconscious body to the family cabin. It was there that Sal ultimately shot and killed her. Kristin, burdened by guilt, later agreed to cooperate with Jax. She wore a secret wire and recorded her father confessing to the crime, providing evidence for his arrest.
A New Beginning and a Dangerous Cliffhanger
The finale also marked a major professional shift for Jax. After enduring workplace challenges and being sidelined during a partnership decision at her firm, she decided to quit. Jax started her own law firm, supported by her husband, Lewis, and her investigator, Daniel.
During a celebratory moment in her new office, their triumph was interrupted by Monica. Having been exposed in court as a child abuser and banned from Ozzie’s funeral, Monica blamed Jax for her downfall. The season ended with Monica pointing a gun at Jax and her friends and firing, leaving their fates unknown for now.
Show creator Raamla Mohamed explained the character’s motivation, noting Monica’s anger had been building.
“I don’t know if that anger goes away. She’s the type of person who’s going to blame a person for something that is entirely her fault,” Mohamed said.
Other Key Developments in the Finale
The finale also addressed several personal storylines for Jax. She continued to navigate a complicated relationship with her biological father, Eddie, who had recently reentered her life. Jax also decided she needed time away from her half-sister, Chelsea.
Meanwhile, Jax’s husband, Lewis, resolved his own professional conflict by firing a problematic employee, Sam, after discovering he had been lying to avoid work.
The dramatic events of the finale set the stage for the already-renewed fourth season, where viewers will learn the consequences of Monica’s attack and follow Jax’s journey as she runs her own law firm.
