The series, which will be available on October 29, 2025, on Netflix, follows a young man’s risky climb to the top of an illegal gambling empire. The trailer promises a story filled with betrayal, family conflicts, and high-stakes action.

The Story

“Rulers of Fortune” is a Brazilian drama series that pulls viewers into the world of “jogo do bicho,” an illegal gambling game. The story begins when a power vacuum opens at the top of the gambling racket, starting an unpredictable war for control of Rio de Janeiro’s crime syndicate. The central plot follows the rapid rise of Profeta (played by André Lamoglia), a new and ambitious contender for the throne of the city’s criminal underworld. He is determined to secure his place at the top, but this forces him into fierce confrontations with the powerful families who already control the area.

The series is set in a world of luxury and sharp contrasts, filmed in the iconic landscapes of Rio de Janeiro. The show’s creators have described it as part of Netflix Brazil’s new slate of ‘mafia productions’. The conflicts in the series start as a cold war but are promised to grow increasingly intense on screen, pulling viewers into a game where every move is critical. The series will have six episodes.

Meet the People Behind the Scenes

The series was created by Heitor Dhalia, Bernardo Barcellos, and Bruno Passeri. Heitor Dhalia, who also directed the series alongside Rafael Miranda Fejes and Matias Mariani, is known for another Netflix series, “Criminal Code.” The production company behind the show is Paranoïd, an independent Brazilian studio known for its bold audiovisual projects.

A Look at the Key Characters

The trailer introduces the four rival families at the heart of the conflict, all fighting for control of the illegal gambling business.

The Moraes Family is where we find our main character, Profeta (André Lamoglia). He is a born strategist from the outskirts of Rio, rising quickly through the criminal ranks and aiming for the top.

The Guerra Family represents a new generation trying to modernize the gambling business. Búfalo (Xamã), a former MMA fighter, runs the family with his wife, Suzana (Giullia Buscaccio). Suzana’s sister, Mirna (Mel Maia), has different plans for the family business, creating a fierce sibling rivalry.

The Fernandez Family is the old guard of the criminal world, led by boss Galego Fernandez (Chico Diaz). He and his wife, Leila (Juliana Paes), fight to maintain their power against new threats, both from outside and inside their own family.

The Saad Family is in a state of change after their heir, Renzo, is arrested. His uncle, Marcinho (Tuca Andrada), temporarily takes charge and acts as an intermediary between the different crime groups.

What the Trailer Shows

The newly released trailer throws viewers directly into the intense and dangerous world of Rio’s underworld. It shows Profeta’s meteoric rise, a journey that requires quick thinking, brains, and merciless tactics to survive. He must face off against seasoned mobsters who do not want to give up their control, setting up a high-stakes power struggle.

The trailer also highlights complex family relationships that add more tension to the crime story. It shows the rivalry between the Guerra sisters, Mirna and Suzana, and how Leila defies the dominance of her husband, Galego, shaking up the traditional power structure of the crime syndicate. The series mixes high-stakes action with emotionally charged personal stories.

A press release from Netflix about the trailer states that it showcases the city’s dangerous and intense underbelly. It sets the stage for Profeta’s journey, showing he is “determined to secure his place at the top, he faces fierce confrontations and high stakes against powerful families in a game where every move is critical.”
