The SBS romantic comedy “Would You Marry Me“ concluded its run on November 15, 2025, by achieving the highest viewership ratings of its entire broadcast. The series finale captured the top spot in its time slot, marking a triumphant end for the show. Competing dramas also saw significant success, with tvN’s “Typhoon Family” and MBC’s “Moon River” both reaching new rating highs for their Saturday episodes.
The finale wrapped up the story of Kim Woo-joo, played by Choi Woo-shik, and Yoo Meri, played by Jung So-min, who finally overcame their challenges to get married. The show’s performance demonstrates the strong appeal of romantic comedies when delivered with strong chemistry and engaging storytelling.
Series Finale Reaches New Height
The final episode of “Would You Marry Me” earned an average nationwide rating of 9.1 percent, setting a new personal record for the drama. The broadcast also peaked at a remarkable 10.3 percent during its run, making it the most-watched miniseries of Saturday. Among viewers in the 20-49 age demographic, a key target audience, the show also secured first place for all Saturday broadcasts.
The drama, which told the story of a man and a woman who enter a 90-day fake marriage for a chance to win a luxury newlywed home, started with a nationwide rating of 5.6 percent for its first episode. Its viewership climbed to 7.5 percent by its fifth episode and continued to build momentum in its final weeks, with the penultimate episode on November 14 also setting a record at the time with a 7.9 percent rating.
A Perfect Happy Ending for Fans
The final episode provided a satisfying conclusion for viewers. After facing a crisis when Woo-joo’s grandmother discovered their initial sham marriage arrangement, the couple appeared to drift apart due to busy schedules. The misunderstanding was resolved when it was revealed that Woo-joo was simply waiting for his grandmother’s blessing. In a touching scene, his grandmother gave him a jade ring as a sign of approval, leading Woo-joo to propose to Meri with the words, “Meri, will you marry me?” After a brief pause, Meri smiled and accepted.
The drama ended with an intimate wedding ceremony surrounded by family and friends. The closing moments featured voice-overs from both characters, with Meri sharing, “What I truly wanted was just one person who would love me no matter who I am,” and Woo-joo reflecting, “When sadness and loneliness came crashing in like waves, I sometimes lost my way, but perhaps all that time was leading me to you, as if we had promised to meet after a long journey.”
Outstanding Chemistry and Global Popularity
The on-screen partnership between Choi Woo-shik and Jung So-min was frequently praised. Their ability to seamlessly transition from comedic scenes portraying a fake newlywed couple to delivering heartfelt romantic moments was central to the show’s success. Memorable scenes like the ‘Cactus Crying Scene,’ ‘Surprise Kiss Scene,’ and ‘Reed Field Kiss Scene’ became highlights for fans.
The drama enjoyed significant international popularity. It consistently ranked high on global content charts, reaching number one worldwide on the Disney+ TV show chart after its sixth episode. The show performed particularly well in several Asian countries and parts of South America, including Brazil and Chile. Following the finale, social media was filled with positive reactions from fans who appreciated the satisfying conclusion and the lead actors’ performances.
Competing Dramas Also See Saturday Success
Despite airing in the same competitive time slot, other dramas also posted strong numbers. MBC’s fantasy romance “Moon River” achieved its highest Saturday ratings yet with a nationwide average of 4.1 percent for its fourth episode. This continued a positive trend for the show, which had seen a significant jump to 5.6 percent for its third episode.
tvN’s business drama “Typhoon Family” also earned its best Saturday viewership so far, scoring a nationwide average of 8.5 percent for its eleventh episode. The drama, which stars Lee Jun-ho and Kim Min-ha and is set during the 1997 financial crisis, has maintained a strong presence. It recently ranked ninth on the Netflix Global Top 10 list for non-English shows and has held the position of the most buzzworthy drama for three consecutive weeks.
Other dramas in the Saturday lineup included KBS 2TV’s “Last Summer,” which rose to a 2.3 percent rating, and JTBC’s “The Dream Life of Mr. Kim,” which scored a 3.4 percent for its seventh episode. KBS 2TV’s “Our Golden Days” remained the most-watched program of the entire Saturday with a dominant 13.2 percent rating.
