After 15 years away from the hospital, Dr. J.D. Dorian and his friends are officially returning to Sacred Heart. The first teaser trailer for the new Scrubs reboot has arrived, showing the original cast back in their scrubs and ready for more medical mayhem.
The new footage, released by ABC, features familiar faces walking the hospital halls and falling back into their old rhythms. J.D., played by Zach Braff, declares, “I’m back, baby!” to a new generation of interns who have no idea who he is. The teaser confirms the return of the beloved characters and the unique mix of comedy and heart that made the original series a success.
The Returning Cast
The core group of Sacred Heart employees is reassembling for the new series. The reboot will see the return of Zach Braff as J.D. Dorian, Donald Faison as Christopher Turk, and Sarah Chalke as Elliot Reid as series regulars.
They will be joined by recurring original cast members, including John C. McGinley as the famously irritable Dr. Perry Cox and Judy Reyes as the sharp and caring nurse Carla Espinosa. Additional familiar faces set to appear include Robert Maschio as the high-fiving surgeon Todd and Phill Lewis as the intimidating Hooch.
The return is a full-circle moment for the actors. Judy Reyes, who is also on ABC’s High Potential, shared her excitement about the reunion, saying, > “I’m psyched. I’m going to be very busy in the next few months, but the reunion with the old school is very exciting. That’s what the most exciting part about it is that it’s going to be a huge reunion of everybody, really trying to bring back or elevate what we did back in the day.”
A First Look at the New Story
The official logline for the reboot states that the show will follow J.D. Dorian and Christopher Turk as they “scrub in together for the first time in a long time.” The world of medicine has evolved, and a new batch of interns has arrived, but the central bromance between J.D. and Turk has “stood the test of time.”
The new series is described by its creator, Bill Lawrence, as a hybrid of a revival and a reboot. It will both revisit the original characters fans love and introduce a new set of surgical interns, capturing the same feeling of young, idealistic doctors being dropped into the high-stakes world of medicine.
The brief teaser already hints at this dynamic. It shows J.D., Turk, and Elliot confronting a group of new, confused interns in the hallway. When J.D. tries to address them in a manner reminiscent of Dr. Cox, the real Dr. Cox emerges from behind a curtain to mock him, with Carla quickly appearing to tell Perry to “leave Bambi alone.”
New Faces at Sacred Heart
Alongside the returning cast, the reboot will introduce a new class of medical interns and staff. The fresh faces include actors Ava Bunn as Serena, Jacob Dudman as Asher, David Gridley as Blake, Layla Mohammadi as Amara, and Amanda Morrow as Dashana.
The show will also add Vanessa Bayer, known from Saturday Night Live, as Sibby, a character who runs a wellness program for the hospital’s staff. Joel Kim Booster will play Dr. Eric Park, an attending physician at Sacred Heart.

Behind the Scenes
The revival is bringing back the original creative team to ensure it retains the spirit of the show. Bill Lawrence, the creator of Scrubs, is returning as an executive producer. The showrunning duties will be handled by Tim Hobert and Aseem Batra, both of whom were writers on the original series.
In a statement, Lawrence expressed his enthusiasm for the project, saying, > “Scrubs means so very much to me. So excited for the chance to get the band back together.”
