The hit JTBC drama “A Hundred Memories” has taken a major leap in its story, moving forward seven years to 1989. In the latest episodes, viewers finally saw the dramatic reunion of former bus attendants Go Young Rye (Kim Da Mi) and Seo Jong Hee (Shin Ye Eun), whose deep friendship was once torn apart by circumstance. Their emotional encounter comes after Jong Hee vanished without a trace, leaving Young Rye and their first love, Han Jae Pil (Heo Nam Jun), behind.
A Friendship Interrupted
“A Hundred Memories” is a nostalgic coming-of-age story set in the 1980s. It centers on two young bus attendants, Go Young Rye and Seo Jong Hee, and their shared first love, Han Jae Pil. The first part of the drama showed their growing friendship and the beginning of a complicated love triangle.
The event that separated the friends was a physical fight involving Young Rye’s boss. To protect her friend, Jong Hee stepped in and used a fountain pen as a weapon. Knowing Jong Hee would face serious consequences for her actions, Young Rye urged her to run away. After this incident, Jong Hee disappeared completely. At the same time, she had learned about Young Rye’s feelings for Jae Pil and had broken up with him. Her sudden departure left deep emotional wounds on both Young Rye and Jae Pil.
Where Are They Now? Seven Years Later
The story has now jumped forward to 1989, showing how all three characters have changed.
- Go Young Rye (Kim Da Mi): Once a plucky bus attendant, Young Rye now works as a stylist at a hair salon. While she seems more poised and resilient, it’s unclear if she still holds onto her original dream of going to college to become a teacher.
- Seo Jong Hee (Shin Ye Eun): Jong Hee’s return is the most dramatic. She comes back with a luxurious, glamorous look and aura that is completely different from her past self. Her new appearance makes everyone wonder if she achieved her dreams of becoming Miss Korea and an actress.
- Han Jae Pil (Heo Nam Jun): Jae Pil has shed his youthful rebelliousness for a more serious and mature vibe. In a surprising turn, he is seen wearing a doctor’s coat and practicing medical sutures, suggesting he may have pursued medical school despite his earlier lack of interest in studying.
An Unfinished Story Reignites
The new special poster for the drama’s second half captures the trio walking together by the ocean, smiling under the bright sun. The caption, “Our story isn’t over yet,” hints that their relationships are far from resolved. While Young Rye and Jae Pil are now in a romantic relationship, Jong Hee’s return is sure to reignite old feelings and unanswered questions.
The production team shared that the second half of the drama will explore new sides of the characters. They said, “Young Rye, Jong Hee, and Jae Pil, who meet again after seven years, will show new sides of themselves compared to their youthful past. Please join us in watching ‘A Hundred Memories’โฆ to find out how the three characters, each of whom has walked their own path in life, have grown and maturedโand what sorts of changes they will face in their relationships as they become entangled with each other once again.”
Shin Ye Eun teased her character’s major transformation, noting, “In the second half, Jong Hee returns in a completely unrecognizable form. While the first half reflected youth and healing moments, the second half centers on complicated events and emotional dynamics between the characters.”
Heo Nam Jun added, “After seven years, the three characters have grown into adults, busy with their own lives. [The second half] tells a story of love and friendship of these grown-ups who are still clumsy and inexperienced when it comes to love.”
The next episodes of “A Hundred Memories” will reveal what happened over the past seven years and what new memories the three friends will create after their unexpected reunion.
