The upcoming fantasy series So What’s Wrong with Getting Reborn as a Goblin? has dropped its first teaser trailer, giving viewers a proper look at the animation and characters before its October 2026 broadcast. The adaptation of Nazuna Miki and Tsukasa Araki’s popular manga is shaping up to be one of the fall season’s most interesting reincarnation stories.
The teaser introduces Akira, a former office worker who ends up as a goblin after dying, along with key characters who will shape his journey. The short video shows the animation quality from studio BAKKKA and gives a feel for the world Akira now finds himself in.
What the Teaser Trailer Shows
The teaser trailer, released on March 24, 2026, runs just over a minute but packs in plenty of details. Viewers get their first look at the main trio. Kikunosuke Toya, known for voicing Denji in Chainsaw Man, takes on the role of Akira. The trailer shows Akira as a goblin who stands apart from others of his kind, hinting at the special abilities that set him on a different path.
Yoko Hikasa, who has voiced characters in many popular series, plays Karen. The trailer shows her as a goblin hunter who crosses paths with Akira. Azusa Tachibana voices Chloe, a demon girl who becomes part of Akira’s growing circle. The teaser also gives quick looks at other goblin characters and the fantasy world they inhabit.
The animation style shows a balance between action and character moments, with the studio BAKKKA handling the production. The teaser ends by confirming the October premiere window.
The Story Behind the Series
The manga, which began serialization in 2020 on Shueisha’s Tonari no Young Jump platform, follows Akira Yagami. He is a kind office worker who always puts others first. After pushing a child out of the way of a speeding vehicle, he loses his life. But instead of the end, he wakes up in another world.
The twist? He comes back as a goblin, one of the weakest monsters in this new world. Goblins normally live only seven days. But Akira gets a special skill called “Human 80 Years” that changes everything. This skill lets him gain abilities from goblins who die around him, slowly building up power that no one expects from his lowly race.
Yen Press, which publishes the English version of the manga, describes the story this way:
Nice guys finish last—no one knows that better than office worker Akira Yagami, who loses his life after jumping into oncoming traffic to save a child. But death is not the end for our selfless hero, as he is reincarnated in another world—not as a human, but as a goblin! Normally, goblins only live for seven days, but thanks to Akira’s unique skill, he’s got eighty years to leave his mark on the world! Eager to make the most of his time, he starts stocking up on skills left and right, and one fateful day, he comes upon the Archfiend himself, who offers him the power to make anyone he defeats eternally loyal to him!
The story moves beyond simple survival as Akira gains followers, faces opposition from powerful families who don’t want a goblin in their ranks, and builds something unexpected from the bottom up. The manga has reached 14 volumes in Japan, with the 14th released on March 18, 2026. The English version will see its 10th volume on May 26, 2026.

What Makes This Series Different
Reincarnation stories have become common in anime, but So What’s Wrong with Getting Reborn as a Goblin? takes a different approach. The protagonist comes back not as a hero or noble, but as one of the lowest-ranked monsters. The series spends time showing how Akira builds strength through collecting skills from fallen goblins and making choices that change his standing in the world.
The manga has found readers who enjoy seeing a character work from the bottom with no special advantages at the start. The combination of survival elements, skill-based progression, and the challenges of rising through a world that looks down on goblins creates a different kind of fantasy story.
