Marvel is building something special in New York City. Two of its biggest street-level heroes are about to share more than just the same skyline. With Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 arriving in March 2026 and Spider-Man: Brand New Day swinging into theaters on July 31, 2026, Marvel Studios has confirmed these projects are directly connected.
The big question now is how will Spider-Man deal with the mess Daredevil leaves behind?
Brad Winderbaum, Marvel’s head of streaming and television, recently shared new details about the connection between both projects during New York Comic Con. The creative teams are working closely together to make sure the stories fit within the same world. But there is one major problem the Spider-Man movie must solve.
What Happens in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 Sets Up a Major Problem
The first season of Daredevil: Born Again ended with Wilson Fisk, played by Vincent D’Onofrio, becoming mayor of New York City. He declared martial law and banned all vigilantes. This changed everything for masked heroes operating in the city.
Season 2 picks up from there. Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) is now leading a resistance against Mayor Fisk and his Anti-Vigilante Task Force. The story takes inspiration from the “Devil’s Reign” comic arc, where Kingpin uses his political power to go after street-level heroes.
Jon Bernthal returns as Frank Castle, also known as The Punisher. Krysten Ritter is officially back as Jessica Jones. Wilson Bethel returns as Bullseye with a new look. The season brings together most of the former Netflix Marvel characters for what looks like an all-out war for control of New York.
Winderbaum confirmed the timeline placement to ComicBook.com. He said, “I think everything will go in order. Daredevil Season 2 comes out before Spider-Man, and like I said, there’s a coherence there”.
This means audiences will watch Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 first and see how the street-level war plays out. Then Spider-Man returns months later in a New York that has already been through major changes.
How The Punisher Connects Both Stories
One character links both projects directly. Frank Castle appears in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 and will also show up in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
The last time audiences saw The Punisher in Daredevil: Born Again Season 1, he was trapped in Kingpin’s underground prison. Season 2 will show what happens next. The Punisher Special Presentation, which is also in development, will explain how Frank gets to where he is when Spider-Man: Brand New Day starts.
Having a character appear in both projects means the events of the show cannot be ignored. Whatever happens to Frank Castle in the series will directly affect his role in Spider-Man’s movie.
Winderbaum explained the approach to Entertainment Weekly. He said, “We are communicating a lot with the team on Spider-Man: Brand New Day to make sure that there’s coherence there. We don’t want to spoil anything, but it very much exists in the same world and it is important”.
The Big Question Spider-Man: Brand New Day Must Answer
Here is the main issue the movie has to address. If Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 ends with Wilson Fisk defeated or his power weakened, there will be a power vacuum in New York’s criminal underworld.
Kingpin has controlled organized crime in the city for years. If he falls, every criminal group will fight to take his place. This sets up exactly what Spider-Man: Brand New Day needs for its story.
Screen Rant recently broke down this exact theory. If Kingpin gets taken down by Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and The Punisher in Season 2, criminals like Scorpion and Tombstone would rise up to claim New York for themselves. That kind of gang war is perfect for a Spider-Man movie.
The film is already set to be a street-level story. The cast includes Mark Ruffalo as Hulk and the previously mentioned Punisher. Spider-Man: Brand New Day continues Peter Parker’s journey after the memory wipe at the end of No Way Home. He is now completely on his own, without Tony Stark’s technology or the Avengers to back him up.
A New York torn apart by a gang war, with The Punisher hunting criminals, puts Spider-Man in the middle of chaos he did not create but has to fix.
Marvel Wants Coherence Without Forcing a Full Crossover
Winderbaum made something clear. Just because the projects are connected does not mean Charlie Cox will appear in the Spider-Man movie. He told ComicBook.com, “I wouldn’t put too much faith in big, strong narrative connections”.
The approach is more about making sure the world feels consistent. Winderbaum explained it using comic books as an example. He said, “Just [like] the Daredevil comic books and the Punisher comic books depicted a certain tone and an idea of New York in a different way than Spider-Man’s, they both exist in the same universe”.
He added, “Everything lines up and the impacts are felt, but we’re able to tell different stories”.
This means the show and the movie can have different tones. Daredevil is darker and more violent. Spider-Man is more hopeful and fun. But the events in one should make sense with the other.
A reference already exists. In the second episode of Daredevil: Born Again Season 1, Mayor Fisk named Spider-Man as a threat during a speech, confirming that Peter Parker is still operating in New York after No Way Home.

Why This Connection Matters for Viewers
For audiences watching both projects in 2026, the connection means paying attention to Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 will make Spider-Man: Brand New Day more rewarding.
The show releases first in March 2026 on Disney+. Viewers will see how the war against Mayor Fisk plays out. They will watch Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and The Punisher fight to take back their city.
Then when July 31, 2026 arrives, Spider-Man: Brand New Day hits theaters. Audiences will understand why New York looks the way it does. They will know what happened to Kingpin and The Punisher before the movie starts.
The last time Marvel tried this was with Thunderbolts and Daredevil: Born Again Season 1. The show ended with Fisk banning vigilantes, but the movie did not mention it at all. Fans were disappointed by the lack of connection.
Marvel seems determined not to make that mistake again.
