The entertainment world gathered in London this week as HBO Max prepared for its official launch in the United Kingdom and Ireland. Stars from across the streaming platform’s biggest shows walked the red carpet at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London’s Southbank Centre on March 24, 2026. Among the many actors present, Steve Carell, Noah Wyle, Lisa Kudrow, and David Harbour attended the celebration. During the event, the actors shared their thoughts on casting choices for their respective shows, giving fans a fun look at which stars they would bring into their on-screen worlds.

The launch event served as a celebration of HBO Max arriving in the UK and Ireland on March 26, 2026. Warner Bros. Discovery organized the immersive experience, which included interactive activities, set recreations, and props from hit series. The timing also coincided with the release of the first teaser for the upcoming Harry Potter television series, which is scheduled to premiere on Christmas 2026.

Stars Talk Dream Casting Choices at HBO Max London Celebration

Steve Carell, who stars in the upcoming HBO Max series Rooster, shared his pick for who he would cast on his show. When asked about actors he would want to work with, Carell named David Harbour, the star of Stranger Things. Harbour was also present at the London event, representing his own HBO Max projects.

Noah Wyle, the Emmy-winning star of The Pitt, also participated in the casting conversation. Wyle, who plays Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch in the medical drama, did not reveal a specific name but joined the group of actors discussing their dream casting choices. The event brought together casts from multiple HBO Max productions, including The Pitt, The Comeback, The Last of Us, Rooster, and I Love LA.

The Pitt Season 2 Currently Streaming on HBO Max

The Pitt has become one of HBO Max’s biggest success stories. The medical drama, created by R. Scott Gemmill and produced by John Wells Productions, earned an Emmy for Best Drama Series. The show follows the staff of Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center, with each season covering a single 15-hour shift in the emergency room.

Season 2 arrived on HBO Max in January 2026 and is now available for UK viewers with the streaming service’s launch. The new season introduced several new cast members, including Sepideh Moafi as Dr. Baran Al-Hashimi, a new attending physician who brings different medical philosophies to the ER. Irene Choi joined as medical student Joy Kwon, while Lucas Iverson plays James Ogilvie, a fourth-year student whose confidence may cause problems.

Returning cast members include Katherine LaNasa as charge nurse Dana Evans, Patrick Ball as Dr. Frank Langdon, Isa Briones as Dr. Trinity Santos, Fiona Dourif as Dr. Cassie McKay, and Taylor Dearden as Dr. Mel King. The show continues its weekly release schedule, with new episodes dropping Thursdays.

HBO Max Makes Streaming Debut in United Kingdom

The London launch event marked a significant milestone for Warner Bros. Discovery. The company has spent years developing its direct-to-consumer strategy, and the UK launch completes the core European rollout of HBO Max. UK and Ireland audiences can now access the platform’s full library, which includes HBO originals, Max originals, Warner Bros. movies, and live sports from TNT Sports.

Casey Bloys, chairman and CEO of HBO and Max Content, attended the launch and spoke about the importance of the UK market. Bloys noted that many of HBO’s most successful shows have been produced in the UK, including Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon, and the upcoming Harry Potter series. He emphasized that the UK creative community has long been a vital part of HBO’s programming strategy.

“We’ve had a long history of work here, both co-productions and also HBO working with UK talent. When people ask about local original programs, I’ll point out that half of our existing schedule is local original programming,” Bloys told The Hollywood Reporter.

The launch event featured an immersive experience allowing guests to step into iconic moments from HBO’s hit shows. Attendees could pick up the emergency red phone from The Pitt to receive a themed cocktail, and a special room displayed the Harry Potter teaser trailer. The celebration ran from March 25-26, giving fans a chance to experience the interactive installations before the streaming service went live.

Harry Potter Series Teaser Debuts Alongside UK Launch

The timing of the UK launch allowed HBO Max to showcase its most anticipated upcoming project. The streaming service released the first teaser for the Harry Potter television series on March 25, 2026. The teaser introduced the new cast members playing the iconic trio: Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley, and Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger.

The three young actors attended the London launch event, marking their first red carpet appearance together. According to Variety, the trio left the event by 7:30 p.m. The Harry Potter series is set to premiere on HBO Max on Christmas 2026. The show will adapt J.K. Rowling’s seven books across multiple seasons, with Francesca Gardiner serving as showrunner and Mark Mylod directing multiple episodes.

Bloys addressed the challenges of producing such a high-profile series during the launch events. He noted that large IP-based shows come with passionate fan bases who have strong opinions about the material. The production team has worked closely with the cast to prepare for the intense public attention that comes with roles in the Wizarding World.

Star-Studded Guest List Includes British Talent

The London event drew talent from both sides of the Atlantic. American stars who traveled to London included Lisa Kudrow (The Comeback), Linda Cardellini, and David Chase (The Sopranos). British actors represented at the event included Marisa Abela (Industry), Aimee Lou Wood (The White Lotus), Jason Isaacs (The White Lotus), Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, and James Norton.

JB Perrette, Warner Bros. Discovery’s president and CEO of global streaming and games, addressed attendees with a short speech. “This has been a moment that has been years, if not decades, in the making,” Perrette said. Alex Lewis, senior VP of UK and Ireland marketing at HBO Max, added that the pop-up experience celebrates the mix of series, movies, real-life stories, and live sports available on the platform.
