New pictures from Stranger Things Season 5 Volume 2 have been shared, showing what happens to the characters after the big fights in the first part of the season. These images, along with new details from the show’s creators, point to an ending full of answers, emotional moments, and a final battle for Hawkins. The photos give fans a first look at the characters as they prepare for their last fight against Vecna. One image shows Eleven at the Hawkins radio station, using her abilities to try and find someone. Another shows Will Byers, his mother Joyce, and Mike Wheeler looking shocked, likely just after Will used his new powers against the Demogorgons. Other pictures feature Robin, Lucas, and Will setting up a tent and a rain-soaked Henry Creel, also known by his false name, “Mr. Whatsit”.
What the New Images Tell Us About the Story
The newly released pictures connect directly to the cliffhangers left at the end of Volume 1. The biggest moment was Will Byers discovering he has psychic powers similar to Eleven’s. He used them to save his friends from Demogorgons. The images confirm that the story will continue right from that point.
Another major story involves Max Mayfield and Holly Wheeler. Both are trapped inside Vecna’s mind, a place Holly calls “Camazotz”. The episode titled “Escape from Camazotz” suggests a major attempt to free them. One of the new images shows Eleven wearing a special headpiece, hinting she might use a sensory deprivation tank to try and reach them.
The pictures also show that Hawkins is a town under siege. The official story summary states the town is under military quarantine, and the government is hunting for Eleven. This creates a dangerous situation where the heroes must fight Vecna while also hiding from the authorities.
Answers to Big Mysteries Are Coming
The show’s creators, Matt and Ross Duffer, have confirmed that Volume 2 will solve some of the series’ longest-running mysteries. A major question has been the true connection between Vecna and the Mind Flayer.
“The connection between Vecna and the Mind Flayer is a question that will be answered in the final episode,” the Duffer Brothers said.
They also stated that the true nature of the Upside Down will be explained. Ross Duffer mentioned that this has been planned for about ten years and is finally being revealed. The story will also clarify exactly why Will was taken in the first season and how it connects to Vecna’s current plan with Holly Wheeler.
In a surprising return, the character Barb will be seen again. The Duffer Brothers confirmed that Shannon Purser will appear, with her body shown as part of Vecna’s network. This finally gives closure to a character whose fate has been discussed by fans since Season 1.
How Will’s New Powers Will Work
Actor Noah Schnapp, who plays Will, explained that his character’s powers work differently from Eleven’s. While Eleven’s abilities are direct and forceful, Will’s seem to be more about connection and channeling.
Schnapp compared Will’s link to Vecna to the famous connection in Harry Potter.
“For Will, we start to learn the parallels between Will and Vecna, and it almost felt very Harry Potter to me… the Harry Potter-Voldemort relationship felt very close to Will and Vecna,” Schnapp said.
This suggests that Will’s role is not to be another Eleven, but to be a unique key to understanding and defeating Vecna from within. Matt Duffer called Will a “new chess piece on the board” for the final battle.
The Final Battle and Returning Characters
The last fight for Hawkins is set to be the biggest yet. The official summary warns of “a darkness more powerful and more deadly than anything they’ve faced before”. The story will also see the return of more characters from the past.
Kali, also known as Eight, is back after appearing in Season 2. The Duffer Brothers said they could not end the series without bringing her back, and she will play an important part in Eleven’s journey. Her ability to create illusions will add a new type of power to the group’s fight.
The new villain, Dr. Kay, played by Linda Hamilton, will also become a bigger threat. Unlike the previous scientist, Dr. Brenner, Dr. Kay does not understand Vecna’s history. She simply sees Eleven as a weapon to be captured, making her more dangerous.

Stranger Things Season 5 Volume 2, which includes Episodes 5, 6, and 7, will be available on Netflix on December 25, 2025.
