On January 16, Super Junior’s Shindong made an appearance as a special guest on the popular SBS program, Dolsing Fourmen. The host, Lee Sang Min, introduced him as the first Korean celebrity to publicly reveal his relationship on the first day of 2023. Shindong expressed regret that his relationship news didn’t garner much attention from fans, attributing it to being overshadowed by the dating news of IU and Lee Jong Suk.
In a candid conversation on the show, Shindong shared insights into his personal life. He explained that every year, the media covers dating gossip of Korean stars, often revealing major celebrity couples on January 1. He pointed out that the news about IU and Lee Jong Suk’s romance was posted on December 31, 2022, a day before his own dating article was published. As a result, his relationship reveal didn’t generate much buzz.
Shindong mentioned, “I saw in the comments that a netizen wrote that no one cared about my dating news. I shouldn’t have revealed my relationship on January 1.”
He further clarified a misconception that some fans have about his marital status, stemming from a statement he made in 2010 on the chat show Strong Heart about getting married. Shindong added that people have commented, “Wait, isn’t Shindong married already?”
As a public figure, Shindong highlighted the challenges of dating in secret. To avoid public attention, he shared that he disguised his girlfriend as his stylist, making her carry extra bags to convince people she was his stylist. While he didn’t want to hide her, he ensured they maintained distance while working.
Shindong, known as a rapper, singer, and dancer in Super Junior, expressed the difficulties of balancing a public career with a private relationship. Beyond his music career, he has showcased his hosting abilities on M! Countdown and established himself as ‘DJ Shindong’ with radio shows like BoBoBo Ai Joa and Green Apple Sound.
