Taeil, a former member of the K-pop group NCT, has experienced a significant drop in his Instagram follower count following serious allegations of sexual offenses. The sudden decrease came after the news of his exit from NCT due to these allegations was made public.
On August 28, SM Entertainment announced that Taeil had been removed from the group amid ongoing investigations into unspecified sexual offenses. The company stated:
“We are currently gathering all the facts and have recognized the seriousness of the situation. We have decided to take prompt action. Taeil is fully cooperating with the police for further investigation. We deeply apologize for the offense caused by the artist.”
In the aftermath of the announcement, Taeil’s Instagram follower count plummeted by over 1 million. Before the news broke, Taeil had approximately 6 million followers. As of August 30, his follower count stands at 5 million.
The dramatic drop in followers reflects widespread disappointment and shock among fans. Online fan communities have been abuzz with discussions about the situation, expressing their dismay over the allegations.
Additionally, NCT and NCT 127‘s official social media accounts have unfollowed Taeil. Notably, his former bandmates Johnny and Winwin also removed him from their follow lists on August 29. Taeyong has gone further, deleting photos with Taeil from his Instagram in response to the allegations.
In a related update, Bangbae Police Station has initiated an investigation into the allegations against Taeil. The police clarified that the victims involved are not minors or individuals of the same sex.
