The Genie TV and ENA drama “Tastefully Yours,” featuring Kang Ha-neul and Go Min-si, is gaining significant attention both in South Korea and around the world. The series, which began with a 1.5% viewership rating, has more than doubled its audience, reaching 3.1% by its fourth episode.
The show has also achieved the second spot globally among non-English Netflix series, according to Netflix’s official statistics site, Tudum. From May 12 to May 18, “Tastefully Yours” recorded 6.6 million global viewing hours, placing it fifth overall across all languages and platforms. The series has secured the top position in 17 countries, including South Korea, the Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Indonesia, and ranked in the Top 10 in 53 countries worldwide.
Story of Romance and Challenges
“Tastefully Yours” follows the story of Han Beom-woo (Kang Ha-neul), an heir to a food conglomerate, and Mo Yeon-joo (Go Min-si), a determined chef who operates a small restaurant in Jeonju. Their initial disagreements in the kitchen slowly develop into an unexpected romance, set against a background of high-stakes cooking competitions and corporate power struggles.
In a recent episode, Beom-woo faced his older brother, Han Sun-woo (played by Bae Na-ra), at a food festival sponsored by their family company. Despite Beom-woo’s efforts to support Yeon-joo by sourcing ingredients and changing the menu, actions by Sun-woo and Jang Young-hye (Hong Hwa-yeon) led to their loss.
This setback, however, brought Beom-woo and Yeon-joo closer. Beom-woo confessed his feelings for Yeon-joo, leading to their first kiss and a quick change in their relationship. Yeon-joo, who first thought he was arrogant, began to see a different side of him.
Global Popularity
The show’s global appeal comes from its blend of classic K-drama elements, such as the wealthy family setting, with new themes like gourmet cooking and an inheritance conflict. The strong performances and noticeable connection between the main actors, Kang Ha-neul and Go Min-si, are also key reasons for its international viewership.
Other Korean dramas are also doing well. “Dear Hongrang,” starring Lee Jae-wook and Cho Bo-ah, entered the global charts at number six with 2.2 million views in just three days. tvN’s “Resident Playbook” also reached number nine with 1.9 million views.
Upcoming Developments
Episode 4 ended with an unexpected discovery: Yeon-joo found a strange lighter in a burned kitchen. The preview for episode 5 suggests a surprise appearance by actor Yoo Yeon-seok, hinting at more interesting events to come.
“Tastefully Yours” is broadcast every Monday and Tuesday at 10 PM KST on the ENA channel. It is also available as a free video-on-demand service on Genie TV immediately after airing. Global viewers can stream the series on Netflix.
