Apple TV+ has started production on Ted Lasso Season 4, bringing back fan-favorite characters while introducing new faces and a major location change. The show’s first look confirms Ted Lasso is now coaching a women’s soccer team in the U.S., marking a fresh chapter for the Emmy-winning series.

Ted Lasso Season 4 First Look and Plot

The first official photo from Ted Lasso Season 4 shows Jason Sudeikis (Ted), Hannah Waddingham (Rebecca Welton), Juno Temple (Keeley Jones), and Jeremy Swift (Leslie Higgins) sitting in an American diner. The setting confirms the show’s shift from London to Kansas City, Missouri, where filming began this week.

“We’re not in Richmond anymore. Ted Lasso Season 4 is now in production,” Apple TV+ announced on social media.

The new season follows Ted as he returns to Richmond to coach a second-division women’s football team. The official logline states:

“Ted and the team learn to leap before they look, taking chances they never thought they would.”

This marks a big change from the previous seasons, where Ted coached AFC Richmond’s men’s team in England.

Returning and New Cast Members

Most of the original cast is back, including:

  • Jason Sudeikis as Ted Lasso
  • Hannah Waddingham as AFC Richmond owner Rebecca Welton
  • Brett Goldstein as Roy Kent
  • Juno Temple as Keeley Jones
  • Brendan Hunt as Coach Beard
  • Jeremy Swift as Leslie Higgins

New actors joining the show include:

  • Tanya Reynolds (Sex Education)
  • Jude Mack (Back in Action)
  • Faye Marsay (Andor)
  • Grant Feely (replacing Gus Turner as Ted’s son, Henry)

The recasting of Henry Lasso happened because the character, now 12, needs advanced soccer skills, which Feely possesses.

Filming Locations and Kansas City Connection

Filming started in Kansas City, Missouri, Jason Sudeikis’ hometown, before moving to London later. Local spots like Gates Bar-B-Q became filming locations, with staff even appearing as extras.

“If you know anything about Kansas City, we are known for barbecue, Gates Bar-B-Q,” said Beatrice Hooker, a supervisor who played a server in the show. “For him to choose Gates, it means a lot.”

Kansas City’s Union Station also celebrated the show’s arrival by lighting up in AFC Richmond’s blue and red colors.

Behind the Scenes and Production Updates

Jack Burditt (30 Rock) joins as an executive producer, while Brett Goldstein continues as a writer and producer. The team includes returning writers like Phoebe Walsh and Sara Walker.

The show’s return was confirmed in March after a two-year gap since Season 3. Jason Sudeikis hinted at the new season’s theme:

“The folks at AFC Richmond learn to leap before they look, discovering that wherever they land, it’s exactly where they’re meant to be.”

What’s Next for Ted Lasso?

While no release date is set, fans can expect:

  • More humor and heartfelt moments
  • A focus on women’s soccer
  • Possible guest appearances from past players like Jamie Tartt (Phil Dunster)

The series, which won 13 Emmy Awards, continues to blend sports drama with uplifting storytelling.
