Tamar Rabinyan finds herself completely alone in Tehran season 3. With her lover Milad dead and her handler Marjan gone, she is hunted by both Iranian intelligence and her own agency, Mossad. The second episode, titled “Friend or Foe,” shows her desperate fight for survival. Her only leverage is a laptop filled with dangerous secrets, and using it forces her into a risky plan that involves her old enemy, Faraz Kamali. This episode is a tense game of lies and pressure, where every character is trying to outsmart the others just to stay alive.
The action picks up right from the shocking end of the first episode. Tamar is inside Faraz’s home, holding his wife, Nahid, at gunpoint. She is not there for revenge but to make a deal. Tamar tells Faraz she needs his help to stop a digital threat that could expose them both. What follows is a high-stakes operation that pushes Faraz to break into a secure government office, while a dangerous new Mossad agent closes in on Tamar.
How Tamar Forced Faraz to Break Into General Mohammadi’s Office
Tamar’s plan was built on a clever lie. She told Faraz that before her death, their former ally Marjan had set up a dangerous fail-safe. Tamar claimed Marjan had programmed an email to be sent automatically to General Mohammadi if she was ever betrayed. This email, Tamar said, contained a virus that would spread through Iranian military computers and reveal evidence labeling Faraz as the traitor who killed the General.
The only way to stop it, according to Tamar, was to manually delete the email from Mohammadi’s own computer. With Nahid’s life as the price for refusal, Faraz had no choice but to agree. He went to the Counter Intelligence office and entered the late General’s secure room.
Tamar guided him by phone, instructing him to connect his device so she could hack the system remotely.
Faraz followed the instructions, but the operation was a setup. There was no threatening email. Tamar’s real goal was to use Faraz’s access to break into Mohammadi’s classified files and search for intelligence on Iran’s nuclear weapons program. Her mission was half-successful. She accessed the system, but security alarms were triggered almost immediately. Faraz heard guards coming and was forced to flee, wiping his fingerprints clean as he escaped. He realized too late that Tamar had tricked him into a dangerous hack, solely to get the information she needed.
The Owl Captures and Interrogates Tamar
Tamar’s small victory did not last long. The moment she left Faraz’s apartment, she was ambushed. A man knocked her unconscious and threw her into a van. When she woke up, she was tied to a chair in a strange room. Her captor was the Owl, a ruthless Mossad operative working directly for the agency’s head, Yulia Magen.
The Owl began to interrogate Tamar, demanding the intelligence she stole from Marjan’s laptop. He showed no mercy, threatening severe torture to make her talk. Facing the loss of a finger, Tamar started to give up information. She revealed she had seen files about shipments of nuclear warhead parts.
This piece of information was her lifeline. Yulia, listening through a comms device, ordered the Owl to stop. The intelligence about Iran’s nuclear program was too valuable to lose. Tamar’s life was spared, but she was not set free. The Owl became her new handler. She was told that all communication with Mossad must now go through him. She was released but trapped in a new cage, forced to work for the very people who want her dead.

Faraz’s New Problem and Tamar’s Mission to Find Ramin Ghasemi
Back at the intelligence office, Faraz found himself in a precarious spot. Mehdi Larijani, who has taken over Mohammadi’s position, called him in. While not directly accused, Faraz knew the security team was scanning the hacked computer and would eventually find traces of his phone. He had only hours before his involvement could be discovered.
Larijani gave Faraz a critical task: deal with Eric Peterson, the international nuclear inspector. Larijani wanted to send a strong message to the foreign team. Faraz met Peterson and his team at their hotel, telling them they could continue their inspection but must leave Iran immediately afterward. This was a trap. When Peterson went to retrieve a hidden surveillance camera he had planted, Faraz and Iranian forces arrested him and his entire team on the spot.
Meanwhile, Tamar was given her first assignment by the Owl. She had to get close to a man named Ramin Ghasemi, whose name she saw on Mohammadi’s computer. The Owl identified Ramin as a powerful smuggler who could “bring anything into the country,” making him a key player in the nuclear parts shipment. To make contact, Tamar used a cover story. A pregnant woman at the shelter where she was hiding had a medical emergency and needed special medicine. Tamar approached Ramin at his public table in the market, pretending to need help importing the medication.
Ramin was impressed by her boldness and invited her to lunch. During their talk, Tamar noticed he kept detailed records of all his shipments in a physical notebook. She reported this to the Owl, suggesting the notebook could be their key to finding the nuclear materials. Ramin agreed to help her and asked her to return the next day.
As she left, Tamar saw Iranian morality police violently attacking a young couple for showing affection in public. The brutal scene reminded her of her lost love, Milad. Acting on impulse, she tried to intervene and was immediately arrested by the police. Both Ramin and the Owl, who was watching from a distance, could only watch as she was taken away, her mission suddenly in jeopardy.
