The third season of Tell Me Lies promises the most chaotic chapter yet for Lucy and Stephen. Picking up after last season’s wedding day explosion, the new episodes will show if their toxic romance can survive its own fallout and the secrets bubbling up on campus. The show returns on January 13, 2026, with the first two episodes dropping that day.
What Will Happen in Season 3?
The story starts at a breaking point. In the 2015 timeline, Bree and Evan’s wedding is in immediate jeopardy after Stephen sends Bree a recording. On it, Evan confesses he cheated on her with Lucy years ago. Stephen held onto this secret for eight years, waiting for the worst possible moment to reveal it. The new season will show the direct fallout from this act of revenge.
Back in the 2008 college timeline, Lucy and Stephen have rekindled their relationship for the spring semester. They promise each other things will be different. Lucy even warns Stephen, “We have to be nice to each other this time”. However, the official plot summary says past mistakes will quickly get in their way. Lucy will find herself pulled into a campus controversy she wants no part of.
“I would say that people can look forward to something a little bit different than the other seasons,” actress Grace Van Patten said. “Season 3 really dives into the other charactersโฆ You really start to see everyoneโs web get more and more tangled”.
The consequences of the previous year are also forcing the entire friend group to face their own bad choices. This includes dealing with the shared trauma of Drew’s death and the ongoing secrets surrounding Macy’s fatal car accident. Showrunner Meaghan Oppenheimer hinted that this season focuses on justice and consequences.
New Faces Joining the Cast
Two key new characters will arrive at Baird College to stir up more drama.
- Iris Apatow joins as Amanda, a college freshman who appears cheerful but is hiding a big secret of her own.
- Costa DโAngelo plays Alex, a psychology graduate student who also works part-time selling drugs. He has a complicated past with Bree.
They will interact with the returning main cast, including Grace Van Patten as Lucy and Jackson White as Stephen. Catherine Missal (Bree), Spencer House (Wrigley), Sonia Mena (Pippa), Branden Cook (Evan), and Alicia Crowder (Diana) are all back. Tom Ellis also returns as Professor Oliver, confirming his storyline is not over despite the revelations about his open marriage.
Key Storylines and Fan Theories
A major question is how the show will balance its two timelines. The creator has said that while Season 3 will still show 2008 to wrap up stories, the focus will shift more toward the 2015 timeline. This means viewers will get more answers about where these characters end up.
Several unresolved plots are set to collide:
- The Wedding Fallout: The immediate aftermath of Stephen’s bombshell recording at Bree’s wedding.
- Diana’s Next Move: After she brilliantly faked failing her LSAT to free herself from Stephen’s control, what will she do next?
- Pippa and Wrigley: Can their relationship survive Wrigley’s grief over his brother Drew and the other secrets between them?
- The Big Secret: Stephen’s role in Macy’s death remains hidden from most of the group, but Lucy knows the truth. This secret has bound her to him, and its exposure could change everything.
The trailer hints at the emotional toll, opening with Lucy tearfully recording an apology video: “I need to apologizeโฆ to everyone. So I am making this tape to say that I am so sorry”. Stephen is also seen struggling, admitting, “I want to hurt you and I donโt know how else to do it”.
