The hit isekai anime series That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime is making a massive comeback in 2026 with its fourth season, and the production team is doing something rarely seen in television anime. The new season will not only premiere this April but will also run for five full cours, giving fans nearly 60 episodes of content over an extended period.

The announcement, which came through Bandai Namco Filmworks and the official TenSura anime channels, has set new expectations for how long a single season of anime can run. Studio 8-Bit returns to animate the series, with Miho Okasaki back as the voice of protagonist Rimuru Tempest.

Official April 2026 Premiere Date and Streaming Details

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 4 officially premieres on April 3, 2026, airing at 23:00 JST on Nippon TV’s FRIDAY ANIME NIGHT slot.

For international audiences, Crunchyroll has secured the streaming rights and will begin simulcasting the new season on the same day. The platform will offer the series with both subtitles and English dub options, following the same pattern as previous seasons. Viewers in Southeast Asia will be able to watch through Muse Asia, which announced its licensing of the fourth season in early March 2026.

The global streaming release includes North America, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, India, and other territories where Crunchyroll operates. Fans in these regions can expect new episodes shortly after their Japanese broadcast.

5-Cour Format Explained

The fourth season adopts a format rarely attempted in television anime. The season will run for five total cours—with each cour representing roughly 11 to 13 episodes. The first two cours will air consecutively, meaning viewers will get approximately 24 to 26 episodes without interruption from April through September 2026.

After the initial two-cour block, the remaining three cours will follow in a split format. Specific air dates for the later parts have not yet been announced, but the total run will extend well beyond a full year of continuous content. This structure allows the production team to maintain consistent quality while adapting a significant portion of the source material.

Industry observers note that a five-cour commitment is unusual for television anime, signaling the confidence producers have in the franchise’s staying power. The previous third season ran for two consecutive cours, making this new order more than double that length.

What to Expect in Season 4 Storyline

The upcoming season picks up after the events of Season 3, with the Jura Tempest Federation preparing to host the Founding Festival. Rimuru’s goal of creating the Human Monster Co-Prosperity Sphere moves closer to reality as diplomatic relations expand with various nations.

However, not everyone welcomes the growing influence of the Demon Lord. Granbell Rosso, the former hero and head of the Five Elders of the Kingdom of Siltrosso, along with his granddaughter Mariabell Rosso, begin plotting against Tempest. They advocate protecting humanity through absolute control, setting up a direct confrontation with Rimuru.

Meanwhile, in the Golden Land of El Dorado, Demon Lord Leon Cromwell moves forward with his own secret objectives. The season will also feature the awakening of a new Hero, adding another layer to the growing conflicts.

The light novel series, written by Fuse with illustrations by Mitz Vah, concluded with its 23rd and final volume on November 29, 2025. This means the anime now has a complete roadmap for adapting the remaining story.

Returning Cast and Production Team

The core creative team remains intact for Season 4. Atsushi Nakayama continues as director, with Toshizo Nemoto handling series composition. Ryoma Ebata returns for character designs, and Hitoshi Fujima again provides the music.

Voice cast members are also returning, with Miho Okasaki leading as Rimuru Tempest. The rest of the main cast from previous seasons will reprise their roles.

New Film Releases in 2026

Before Season 4 premieres, fans will get additional content from the franchise. That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime the Movie: Tears of the Azure Sea opened in Japan on February 27, 2026. The film takes place as a side story following Season 3 events, with Rimuru and his companions visiting a private resort island belonging to the Magi Dynasty Thalion.

Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment will bring the film to North American theaters on May 1, 2026, available in both Japanese with English subtitles and an English dubbed version. The film features an original story with oversight from original creator Fuse.

A special 10-minute sneak peek of the new film was shown during Crunchyroll’s Anime Nights event on April 20, 2026, alongside a screening of the previous movie, Scarlet Bond.
