Jeremy Allen White has announced that production for the fifth season of the hit series The Bear is set to begin in early January. The actor confirmed the filming start date while discussing his upcoming projects, signaling that the FX show is maintaining its fast-paced production schedule to meet its annual release target.

Carmy’s Return to the Kitchen

During a recent interview, Jeremy Allen White was asked about the timeline for the next season. He provided a concrete start date for when the cast and crew will get back to work.

โ€œJan. 5 or something like that. Very soon,โ€ White said of the Season 5 production schedule.

This early January start fits the series’ historically efficient production pattern. The team has consistently filmed and released new seasons within tight windows, with Seasons 3 and 4 being shot back-to-back from February to May 2024. The early 2026 filming start makes a summer 2026 release for Season 5 a strong possibility, keeping the show on its yearly release track.

A Different Kind of Connection

White also reflected on how his experience on The Bear differs from his time on Shameless, the long-running series where he first gained fame. He explained that his connection to his character and the show’s creator has helped him avoid the creative burnout he sometimes felt during his earlier role.

He admitted that on Shameless, there were seasons where he felt deeply connected to his character, Philip “Lip” Gallagher, and others where he did not, partly due to his younger age at the time.

โ€œI feel really connected to Carmy and I feel really connected to Christopher Storer in a way that probably just due to my age I didnโ€™t feel with John Wells always,โ€ White shared, highlighting his personal and professional bond with the Bear creator, whom he considers โ€œa friend and a peer.โ€

A Season of Change

This new production update comes after a significant cliffhanger in Season 4. The season concluded with Carmy making the decision to leave the restaurant and the culinary world behind. This sets the stage for Season 5 to explore a major shift in the show’s dynamic, potentially focusing on Sydney, Richie, and Sugar as they work to keep the restaurant operating without its brilliant but troubled head chef.

The series, which has won twenty-one Primetime Emmy Awards, continues to be a critical and popular success. The main cast, including Ayo Edebiri and Ebon Moss-Bachrach, is expected to return for the new season.
