The expanding world of The Boys is heading back to the 1950s with its new prequel series, Vought Rising, and the cast is getting bigger. Four new actors have joined the show in recurring roles, adding more faces to the twisted early days of the superhero company Vought International. The new cast members are Raphael Sbarge, Romi Shraiter, Aaron Douglas, and David Hewlett. They will appear alongside the previously announced leads Jensen Ackles and Aya Cash, who are returning to their roles from The Boys.
The New Faces Joining the Cast
Prime Video has confirmed that Raphael Sbarge, Romi Shraiter, Aaron Douglas, and David Hewlett have been cast in recurring roles for Vought Rising. While specific details about the characters they will play are being kept secret, each actor brings a history of memorable performances.
Raphael Sbarge is known for his role in Once Upon a Time and has recently appeared in HBO’s Task and the film The History of Sound. Romi Shraiter has been seen in the first three seasons of Netflix’s Ginny & Georgia. Aaron Douglas is widely recognized for his role as Chief Galen Tyrol on the sci-fi series Battlestar Galactica. David Hewlett has appeared in numerous projects, including Guillermo del Toro’s The Shape of Water and Rise of the Planet of the Apes.
They join a large ensemble cast that includes series regulars Mason Dye, Will Hochman, Elizabeth Posey, KiKi Layne, and Brian J. Smith, among others. The show also added recurring cast members Cecily Strong, Mark Pellegrino, Eric Johnson, and Annie Shapero earlier this month.
A Look Back at Vought’s Beginnings
Vought Rising was first announced at San Diego Comic-Con in 2024 by The Boys creator Eric Kripke and showrunner Paul Grellong. They described the series as a “twisted murder mystery about the origins of Vought in the 1950s, the early exploits of Soldier Boy, and the diabolical maneuvers of a Supe known to fans as Stormfront.”
The show will explore the early days of the Vought corporation, showing how the company began its experiments with Compound V and how superheroes were first turned into tools for propaganda and profit. The story is set to reveal the dark secrets behind the corporation’s rise to power.
First Look at the 1950s Supes
Prime Video has released first-look images showing how the superheroes will appear in the 1950s setting. The visuals highlight a distinct style shift from the modern looks seen in The Boys. The supe outfits are colorful and draw inspiration from military uniforms and USO shows of the era.
The images confirm four key characters: Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy, Mason Dye as Bombsight, Will Hochman as Torpedo, and Elizabeth Posey as Private Angel. Soldier Boy’s costume is a brighter green with a full coat and mask, a noticeable change from his darker, more rugged look in The Boys Season 3.
Eric Kripke explained the thought process behind the costume designs, noting that the earliest supe outfits were military-inspired. He stated, “The first suits that anyone wore were military suits, which are performative and ornamental. So they would emerge from that pretty naturally.” As the supes moved into the private sector, the costumes evolved to become flashier, shifting from military discipline to consumer-focused showmanship.
Production Status and Show Leadership
Filming for Vought Rising officially began on August 17, 2025. The first episode is titled “Red Scare.” Production is expected to continue through December 2025.
The series is showrun by Paul Grellong, an executive producer on The Boys. The extensive list of executive producers includes The Boys creator Eric Kripke, Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, and the original comic book creators Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson. Both Jensen Ackles and Aya Cash also serve as producers on the series. The show is a production of Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios, in association with Kripke Enterprises, Point Grey Pictures, and Original Film.
While an official release date for Vought Rising has not been announced, it is confirmed to stream on Amazon Prime Video. It will be the fourth series in The Boys franchise, joining the main show, the animated Diabolical, and the college-set Gen V.
“If ‘Vought Rising’ works and we can keep doing more [seasons], I think we’d be insane to not put Ethan Slater’s character in that show. He’s right there lined up for a younger Thomas Godolkin. We’ve discussed it,” Kripke shared regarding potential future crossovers with Gen V.
