The final season of Prime Video’s hit series The Boys will feature a major reunion. Actor Misha Collins is officially part of the cast for Season 5, joining his former Supernatural co-stars on screen. Collins, alongside Jared Padalecki, will appear in the upcoming season, which creator Eric Kripke has confirmed will be the show’s last. The news has excited fans who have followed Kripke and the actors since their long-running run on Supernatural.
Specific details about the character Collins will play are being kept secret. He and Padalecki are listed as guest stars for the final season. Their involvement was confirmed earlier this year, adding to the list of Supernatural alumni who have appeared in The Boys universe, which already includes Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, and Jim Beaver.
The Supernatural Reunion on Set
The casting completes a reunion that showrunner Eric Kripke has been working toward. Kripke, who created Supernatural, has often talked about his wish to work with the main cast of that series again. Last year, he joked about needing to “complete my game of ‘Supernatural’ Pokรฉmon,” referring to Padalecki as the “one big one” left to catch.
With Collins and Padalecki now on board, the three central actors from the later seasons of SupernaturalโPadalecki, Ackles, and Collinsโwill all be part of The Boys finale. Kripke has spoken about his fondness for his former collaborators, stating, “I love him and you try to work with people that you love”. This behind-the-scenes connection has become a signature of the show, blending Kripke’s past and present projects.
What We Know About Season 5’s Story
The fifth season picks up the story after the events of The Boys Season 4 and the second season of its college spinoff, Gen V. The official description sets a dire stage: the world is now fully under Homelander’s control, shaped by his unstable and selfish desires.
“In the fifth and final season, itโs Homelanderโs world, completely subject to his erratic, egomaniacal whims. Hughie, Motherโs Milk, and Frenchie are imprisoned in a ‘Freedom Camp.’ Annie struggles to mount a resistance against the overwhelming Supe force. Kimiko is nowhere to be found. But when Butcher reappears, ready and willing to use a virus that will wipe all Supes off the map, he sets in motion a chain of events that will forever change the world and everyone in it.”
This plot sets up a final, large-scale conflict. Butcher, played by Karl Urban, returns with a dangerous plan that could eliminate all Supes. Meanwhile, Homelander has consolidated terrifying power, with the public largely supporting him and superheroes acting with authority over police forces.
Season 5 Release Schedule and Trailer
Amazon Prime Video announced the release plan for the final season at the CCXP Brazil event in December 2025. The season will premiere on April 8, 2026.
- Premiere Date: April 8, 2026 (Episodes 1 & 2 released)
- Weekly Episodes: New episodes released each Wednesday
- Series Finale: May 20, 2026
The released teaser trailer offers glimpses of the new season. It shows Butcher trying to unite the team for a last stand, brief shots of Jensen Ackles’ Soldier Boy still in containment, and Homelander committing a brutal act of violence. It also provides the first look at Jared Padalecki’s mystery character, who is seen in a room with Soldier Boy and Homelander. The trailer does not show Misha Collins, keeping his role under wraps for now.

The Final Season’s Cast and Expectations
The main cast from the series will return for the conclusion. This includes Antony Starr as Homelander, Karl Urban as Billy Butcher, Jack Quaid as Hughie, and Erin Moriarty as Starlight. Other returning stars are Jessie T. Usher, Laz Alonso, Chace Crawford, Tomer Capone, Karen Fukuhara, Colby Minifie, and Cameron Crovetti.
Jensen Ackles will return as Soldier Boy in a significant capacity. Kripke has said that the father-son dynamic between Soldier Boy and Homelander is a key area the final season will explore. He confirmed that Ackles will be in the season “quite a lot” and that Soldier Boy is determined to get revenge on Butcher for betraying him in Season 3.
Kripke and the cast have prepared fans for a dramatic and bloody ending. The showrunner has said that in a final season, “you can blow the doors off it,” and that “there’s no guarantee who’s going to survive”. Karl Urban added that from the very first episode, viewers will see that “no one is safe”.
