Global K-pop group THE BOYZ faced a major shakeup as member Ju Haknyeon was removed from the group following a scandal involving a former Japanese adult actress. Now, fans are revisiting an emotional video of member Eric filmed just one day before Haknyeon’s exit was announced, sparking speculation that he may have hinted at the situation.
On June 18, 2025, Haknyeon’s agency, ONE HUNDRED Label, confirmed his departure after reports linked him to Asuka Kirara, a former adult film star. The agency stated they could no longer maintain trust in him as an artist. Shortly after, a clip of Eric crying during a fan event surfaced, leading fans to wonder if he was reacting to the impending news.
The video shows Eric struggling to hold back tears while interacting with fans. Many believe his emotional state was tied to Haknyeon’s sudden hiatus, which was announced the next day. Some fans pointed out that Eric’s message on the fan platform Fromm, where he apologized for “upsetting news,” further supports this theory.
“To be honest, I’m not really sure what words I can say to bring even the slightest bit of comfort to you all… I sincerely apologize for the recent wave of upsetting news that has caused hurt and disappointment.”
Other members, including Younghoon, Q, and Kevin, also shared heartfelt messages, expressing sadness and promising to work harder. Younghoon’s message included:
“THE B, you’re tired, aren’t you? Worn out from everything? I’m really, really sorry. Just seeing your smiling faces made me happy — but now I feel sad, worried I might not get to see you smile anymore.”
The scandal began when Japanese media reported Haknyeon was seen with Kirara at a Tokyo bar in late May. Though he denied any illegal activity, his agency terminated his contract after an internal review. Some fans criticized the decision, arguing that Haknyeon’s private life should not affect his career.
“Haknyeon getting kicked out of TBZ and the company wording it like he committed a crime when it was just him allegedly having a girlfriend who’s a former pornstar, I’m so done.”
Others defended the agency, stating the decision was made to protect the group’s reputation. A police report was later filed against Haknyeon for alleged solicitation, though he maintains his innocence.
THE BOYZ debuted in 2017 under Cre.Ker Entertainment (now ONE HUNDRED Label) and gained fame through shows like “PRODUCE 101.” Haknyeon was a popular member, and his sudden exit has left fans divided.
Eric’s emotional moment has since gone viral, with many praising his sincerity. His message to fans emphasized his commitment to the group:
“I promise that even when you look back far in the future, the precious and beautiful love you had for THE BOYZ will never feel like something to be ashamed of.”
As the group moves forward as 11 members, fans continue to share support for both Haknyeon and the remaining members. The situation highlights the intense scrutiny K-pop idols face regarding their personal lives.
