Ron Trosper went looking for a corporate fraud. He found his boss, a terrifying neighbor, and a claim that his broken chair was an act of psychic revenge. The first season of HBO’s The Chair Company ended with a finale that swapped financial crime for the paranormal, leaving Ron with more questions than answers. After a season of investigating faulty chairs and money scams in Delaware City, the truth appears to be something much stranger and far more personal.
How Jeff Levjman Connects To The Tecca Scandal
The hunt for the truth about Tecca chairs led Ron to the last person he expected: his own boss. In the finale, Ron agreed to meet Jeff Levjman at a karaoke bar. As Jeff sang, Ron realized the song was identical to the hold music played by Red Ball Market Global, the shadowy company linked to Tecca. This was the clue that pushed Ron past the breaking point.
He left the bar and went straight to Jeff’s office at Fisher Robay. Ignoring Jeff’s earlier warning not to lean on a specific wall, Ron pressed against it and discovered a hidden compartment. Inside, he found documents and a photograph linking Jeff to the Tecca conspiracy. The photo showed Jeff with a movie star and a man named Stacy Crystals, who was introduced in the episode’s cold open being shot by a child at a wedding. The files suggested Jeff and Stacy Crystals were high-level figures at Red Ball Market Global. The discovery confirmed a corporate conspiracy, but Ron also learned his wife’s investor, Alice Quintana, was not named in the files, suggesting her role was not what it seemed.
The Dark Truth About Mike’s Past Is Revealed
While dealing with his boss, Ron also faced shocking news about his only ally, Mike. Ron visited the home of Mike’s daughter, Lynette, expecting to find a family. Instead, Lynette revealed a disturbing story. She explained that Mike was not her biological father. Her real father died in a car accident, and Mike was the recipient of his heart through organ donation. The family invited Mike to Lynette’s wedding so a piece of her father could be there, but Mike became dangerously obsessed with the idea of being part of the family.
“Iโm attracted to you even more than I was your mom, because youโre younger,” Lynette recalled Mike saying to her, which led the family to get a restraining order against him.
The final scenes of the season showed that Mike had taken a man hostage, later revealed to be Delaware City Mayor Greg Braccon, chained up in his bathroom. This proved Lynette’s warnings were true and showed Mike was a far more dangerous and unstable person than Ron ever understood.
A Bizarre Supernatural Twist Changes Everything
The finale’s biggest surprise came in the final minutes. Ron finally met the mysterious caller who had been stalking him, a man wearing a Jason Voorhees hockey mask. The man removed his mask to reveal a face altered by plastic surgery and identified himself as the boyfriend of Amanda, Ron’s coworker from the HR investigation. He then presented an explanation for the event that started the entire series: Ron’s chair breaking during his presentation.
He claimed Amanda broke the chair using telekinesis. According to him, this was revenge for an incident in high school where Ron accidentally spat a jelly bean or gummy bear down Amanda’s shirt, humiliating her. The boyfriend stated he had seen Amanda move objects with her mind before and that strong emotions allowed her to break things.
This supernatural claim was supported by another eerie moment in the episode. While walking his dog, Ron met a neighbor who claimed the dog, named Baby, was actually his and was called Minnie Mouse. In the neighbor’s shed, the man’s face momentarily transformed into a monstrous, demonic shape before Ron passed out and later woke up on a couch, unsure if it was real or a dream. These events purposely blurred the line between reality and nightmare, making the psychic revenge story seem slightly more plausible in Ron’s unraveling world.

Faced with these revelations, Ron spent much of the finale trying to be a better family man and leave the conspiracy behind. He encouraged his son, Seth, to pursue his passion for stop-motion animation instead of basketball. He told his daughter, Natalie, to stop helping with the investigation to protect her mother’s business. He even called a newspaper tipline to expose the scam, but hung up before giving any names.
His wife, Barb, also delivered a blow to his ego. She admitted that her previous support was not genuine. She had been mocking him behind his back, frustrated that he was running around like a “dumb detective” on a “cute” case. Combined with Jeff’s patronizing comment that Ron was content with a “nice, simple life,” these words pushed Ron to prove he was important, ultimately driving him back into the mystery.
The season ended on a freeze-frame of Ron’s alarmed and confused face as Amanda’s boyfriend yelled at him. The show answered whether there was a Tecca conspiracy by confirming Jeff’s role, but then introduced an even bigger question: was the core event of the entire season an act of supernatural vengeance? With Season 2 already renewed, the show will continue to explore what is real, what is in Ron’s head, and how deep the rabbit hole truly goes.
