The first season of HBO’s strange and funny show The Chair Company just wrapped up, and fans who were left with many questions got a big piece of good news. HBO has officially renewed the series for a second season. The news was shared by HBO’s top executive in late November, confirming that the network was pleased with the show’s strong start and plans to continue the bizarre story of Ron Trosper and his collapsing office chair.

The show’s first season of eight episodes started on October 12, 2025, and ran every Sunday night until its finale on November 30, 2025. Created by comedian Tim Robinson and writer Zach Kanin, the series mixes awkward workplace humor with a sprawling mystery. The story follows Ron Trosper, played by Robinson, whose chair breaks during a big presentation at work. This embarrassing moment sends him down a confusing path to investigate the company that made the chair, leading to dangerous and absurd situations.

HBO Executives Announce the Renewal and Praise the Show

The official word about Season 2 came during a press event in New York on November 20, 2025. Casey Bloys, the chairman of HBO and HBO Max Content, announced the renewal alongside other series pickups. The show was described as a hit for the network, becoming “HBO’s top freshman comedy in platform history”.

Amy Gravitt, the executive vice president in charge of comedy series for HBO, released a statement expressing the network’s happiness with the show’s reception.

“We’re thrilled by the incredible response to The Chair Company and I Love LA,” Gravitt said. “Both shows confidently carry on the HBO comedy tradition, in their own singular way. We couldn’t be happier to continue collaborating with Tim, Zach, and their exceptional teams.”

The decision to bring the show back was supported by strong numbers. The series averaged 3.3 million viewers in the United States during its first season. Critics also loved it, giving the show a perfect 100% score on the review site Rotten Tomatoes.

What Happened in the Season 1 Finale?

The season finale, titled “Minnie Mouse Coming Back Wasn’t On My Bingo Card,” aired on November 30th and set up many mysteries for the next season. After spending the season digging into the Tecca chair company, Ron tried to put the conspiracy behind him and get his normal life back. However, clues kept pulling him back in.

A major reveal involved Ron’s boss, Jeff Levjman, played by Lou Diamond Phillips. Ron discovered that a song Jeff recorded was the exact same music played on the customer service line for the Tecca chair company. This led Ron to search Jeff’s office, where he found hidden files linking his boss to the conspiracy. This discovery made it clear the mystery was much closer to home than Ron ever imagined.

The finale ended with a bizarre and tense confrontation. Ron finally met the mysterious person who had been calling him. The man, wearing a hockey mask, removed it to reveal a heavily altered face from plastic surgery. He claimed to be the boyfriend of Ron’s coworker, Amanda. He offered a shocking explanation for Ron’s broken chair: he said Amanda has telekinetic powers and made the chair break on purpose as revenge for an awkward high school incident involving Ron and a gummy bear. The episode ended with the man attacking Ron, leaving his fate unknown.

Major Questions Season 2 Needs to Answer

The finale created more puzzles than it solved, ensuring viewers will be eager for the next season. One of the biggest twists involved Ron’s partner in investigation, Mike Santini (Joseph Tudisco). A woman named Lynette, who Ron thought was Mike’s daughter, visited him to reveal a disturbing truth. She said Mike was not her father but had received her late father’s heart in a transplant. After meeting her family, Mike began acting like he was her father, leading to a restraining order. The final scene of the season showed Mike had taken a hostage, making his true motives and identity a complete mystery.

Other unresolved threads include the shooting of a man named Stacy Crystals in the finale’s cold open, and whether the supernatural claim about Amanda’s mind-control powers has any truth to it. Most importantly, the finale asked who is really in charge of the conspiracy. With Ron’s boss Jeff implicated, Amanda accused, and new players like Stacy Crystals involved, the search for the true mastermind is far from over.

When Can Fans Expect to Watch Season 2?

As of now, HBO has not announced a release date for The Chair Company Season 2. Since the renewal was just confirmed and production has not yet started, it is likely fans will have a bit of a wait. Industry estimates suggest the new season could aim for a late 2026 or early 2027 release. The first season was eight episodes long, and the second season could have a similar number.

All eight episodes of the first season are available to stream on HBO Max. For new viewers catching up, the show stars Tim Robinson as Ron Trosper, alongside Lake Bell as his wife Barb, Sophia Lillis as his daughter Natalie, and Will Price as his son Seth.
