The long wait for the next chapter of one of the biggest shows in the world is finally over. Prime Video and 5&2 Studios have set a premiere date for The Chosen Season 6, and it is coming sooner than many expected.
The popular historical drama about the life of Jesus will return with six new episodes. The first three episodes will drop on November 15, 2026, with the remaining episodes releasing weekly. The schedule continues through December 6, 2026. The season finale will then arrive in movie theaters during spring 2027 as a standalone theatrical event.
What to Expect in The Chosen Season 6
This season covers the most intense part of the story. The show will focus on the final 24 hours of Jesus’ life. The official description says, “Before the sun sets, Jesus of Nazareth will be dead.” The season captures the events of that day through the eyes of both his followers and those who want to condemn him.
Creator Dallas Jenkins explained why this season needed special treatment. He said that everyone knows the basic story, but not everyone understands the deeper meaning behind those events. Jenkins and his team wrote and filmed everything with both television and theatrical release in mind from the start.
“Everyone knows the basics of this part of the story, but not everyone knows the ‘why’ of the crucifixion and the extraordinary events of these 24 hours. We realized this not only deserved a season of television but a standalone full-length theatrical event as well.” – Dallas Jenkins, Creator of The Chosen
Jenkins also shared during a livestream that this season is the biggest they have ever made. He said it is taking the longest to complete because of the visual effects and translation work. The entire season has longer episodes than previous seasons. Jenkins believes this season will connect with more viewers than any other season they have done.
Returning Cast and Characters
Jonathan Roumie returns as Jesus for season 6. The full cast includes many familiar faces who have been with the show since earlier seasons. Shahar Isaac plays Peter, Paras Patel returns as Matthew, and Elizabeth Tabish is back as Mary Magdalene. Other returning cast members include Noah James as Andrew, George H. Xanthis as John, and Abe Bueno-Jallad as Big James.
Vanessa Benavente returns as Mother Mary, while Luke Dimyan plays Judas. The season also brings back Richard Fancy as Caiaphas, Paul Ben-Victor as King Herod, and Andrew James Allen as Pontius Pilate. The full ensemble is ready to tell this important part of the story.
Where and How to Watch
The Chosen Season 6 will stream exclusively on Prime Video in the United States and many other countries. The release schedule starts with episodes 1-3 on November 15. Episode 4 arrives on November 22, episode 5 on November 29, and episode 6 on December 6.
The season will also be available in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Sub-Saharan Africa, the United Kingdom, and Latin America on the same dates. This is the first time the show will release all episodes and the finale in dozens of languages at the same time, instead of adding translations later.
The season finale will get a theatrical release in spring 2027. Jenkins described it as a “supersized episode” that fans will be able to watch in movie theaters worldwide. The premiere episode of season 7 will also get a theatrical release at a later date.
Behind the Scenes
Production on season 6 started in mid-April 2025 and wrapped in mid-September 2025. The show primarily films at Camp Hoblitzelle in Midlothian, Texas. Jenkins noted that work on this season took longer than usual because of the visual effects needed and the translation work for different languages.
The show has become a massive global success. According to Prime Video, The Chosen has attracted over 300 million viewers worldwide, making it one of the most-watched series on the planet.
