Production for the second season of the hit Netflix drama The Hunting Wives is officially underway. The streaming service has confirmed that three key characters from the Maple Brook police force will return for the new episodes, signaling a deeper dive into the town’s unsolved mysteries.

The show, which became a breakout hit after its debut this summer, started filming its eight-episode second season in November 2025. The new season will continue the story of Sophie and Margo, but with a stronger law enforcement presence as the investigation into the town’s dark secrets intensifies.

Who Is Returning for Season 2

Netflix has confirmed that two deputies have been promoted to series regulars, while the town’s sheriff will also make a comeback.

  • Karen Rodriguez returns as Deputy Wanda Salazar. After playing a crucial role in the investigation into Abby’s murder in the first season, her character is now a series regular.
  • Hunter Emery is back as Deputy Walter Flynn. Like his partner, Flynn has been promoted to a series regular for the new season.
  • Branton Box reprises his role as Sheriff Johnny. He will return to the series in a guest star capacity as the investigation heats up.

They join the previously announced returning main cast, including Brittany Snow as Sophie, Malin Akerman as Margo, Jaime Ray Newman as Callie, Dermot Mulroney as Jed, Evan Jonigkeit as Graham, and George Ferrier as Brad.

The Story So Far and What’s Next

The first season of The Hunting Wives ended on a major cliffhanger. After Sophie deduced that Margo was the one who killed the teenager Abby, a confrontation between them led to a tragic accident. Sophie, while driving, crashed into and killed Margo’s brother, Kyle. She then hid his body, a secret that Margo later discovered.

With the case of Abby’s murder wrongly pinned on another character who is now dead, the police investigation was considered closed. However, Kyle’s disappearance is expected to be a central mystery in season two, forcing the police to look into another missing person case in Maple Brook. The promoted roles for Deputies Salazar and Flynn suggest this investigation will be a major focus.

The official logline for the new season sets the stage for more tension and alliance. It states that at the start of season two, “Sophie and Margo are on the outs. But soon enough, old secrets and new foes force them back together. As they play their dangerous games the question arises. Are they the hunters or the hunted?”

Behind the Scenes and Fan Reaction

The announcement of season two’s production came with a playful nod to a fan-favorite topic: Malin Akerman’s wig. Netflix shared a photo from the set featuring the chairs for Sophie, Margo, and Margo’s wig. Akerman’s brown wig from the first season went viral, and its confirmed return for the new season has generated excitement among viewers.

The series, produced by Lionsgate Television and 3 Arts Entertainment, was a major success for Netflix. It spent five weeks in the global Top 10 for English-language TV and amassed over 20 million views. Its popularity even earned it a parody sketch on Saturday Night Live.

Showrunner Rebecca Cutter, who executive produces the series, shared her enthusiasm for continuing the story. She told Netflix’s Tudum site, “Iโ€™m so excited to write these amazing characters again and I canโ€™t wait to take the audience on another sexy, twisted, batshit crazy ride through Maple Brook.”

Brittany Snow also teased a darker path for her character, Sophie, in the upcoming season. She hinted that the new episodes will reveal “the type of person she really is,” suggesting that the dangerous decisions Sophie made at the end of season one were just the beginning.
