A tragic family secret from Chicago comes to light, shattering Frank’s life in Alaska just as he pieces together a conspiracy that reaches one of his closest allies. The seventh episode of The Last Frontier, titled “Change of Time,” delivers the series’ most shocking twist, redefining everything viewers thought they knew about the central characters.
The Tragic Secret Behind Ruby’s Death
The episode begins with a heartbreaking flashback to Chicago four years ago. Frank is with his children, Luke and Ruby, getting food when a drive-by shooting targets him. Ruby is in the family car and is fatally wounded, dying in Frank’s arms while Luke watches helplessly.
In the present, Luke and his mother Sarah confront Frank about the hidden gun they discovered. Frank finally confesses the full story. The gun is evidence from a past case involving a dangerous criminal, Paddy Coogan. Frank and his partner hid the weapon to ensure Coogan was convicted for a murder he did not commit, believing it was the only way to stop his other violent crimes. The criminal’s brother discovered the truth and ordered the hit on Frank that ultimately killed Ruby.
For years, Luke blamed himself for his sister’s death, believing it was his fault for asking to go out that day. Learning the truth from his father shatters the family. Sarah and Luke decide to leave Frank, moving in with an aunt to get some space from the devastating revelation.
Havlock’s Capture and a New Mystery
With the power restored in Fairbanks, the team detects a signal transmission from inside their own command post. Sidney discovers that the courier, Vincent Thiago, has been wired, allowing Havlock to listen to their every plan. This breach leads them to track Havlock’s location.
Havlock, now desperate and emotionally unstable after being blocked from accessing the Archive 6 data, forces an airman named Jamal Freeman to reveal the location of a nearby NSA listening post. There, he successfully retrieves the sensitive information he needs.
Frank and Sidney pursue Havlock, with Frank using a helicopter to force Havlock’s car off the road. In a dramatic and confusing moment, Sidney rushes to the wrecked vehicle, pulls Havlock from the burning car, and cradles him tearfully before suddenly shifting to a professional tone to arrest him. Havlock is finally in custody.
The Final Twist: Sidney’s True Allegiance
The episode’s final moments deliver a game-changing twist. After Havlock is taken away by the FBI with Sidney accompanying them, Frank returns to his empty home. Reflecting on the case, he looks at an old photo of Vincent Thiago from 1997 that the team had recovered.
He remembers a comment Sidney made about the photo: “That little girl could be my age now.” Frank realizes the little girl in the picture is Sidney herself, and the man next to Thiago is her father. This means Thiago has known Sidney her entire life and doesn’t work for the CIA—he works for her.
Frank connects the dots in a stunning revelation. Sidney, the woman he has come to trust, appears to be the true mastermind. He believes she is the one who brought down the plane and has been orchestrating the entire crisis from the very beginning, likely as part of a revenge mission against the CIA for her father’s death.
