Fans of the hit medical drama The Pitt can mark their calendars. The show’s second season is set to premiere on January 8, 2026, on Max. The new season will continue the real-time format, following the staff through another intense shift at the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center.

Season 2 Story and Setting

The new season picks up about 10 months after the events of the first season. The 15-episode shift will take place over the Fourth of July weekend, one of the busiest times for any emergency room.

Showrunner R. Scott Gemmill confirmed the season will start with Dr. Frank Langdon’s first day back at work after completing a 30-day inpatient rehab program for drug addiction. The holiday setting is expected to bring a wave of fireworks-related injuries and holiday accidents.

The series will maintain its unique real-time structure, with each episode representing one hour of the grueling shift.

“I think in some ways Season 1 was about recognizing that he has a pit. We have a pit,” Noah Wyle told TV Guide. “Season 2 is about, how do we climb out?”

Returning Cast Members

Most of the core medical staff from the first season will return for the new shift.

  • Noah Wyle as Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch
  • Katherine LaNasa as charge nurse Dana Evans
  • Patrick Ball as Dr. Frank Langdon
  • Supriya Ganesh as Dr. Samira Mohan
  • Fiona Dourif as Dr. Cassie McKay

  • Isa Briones as Dr. Trinity Santos
  • Gerran Howell as medical student Dennis Whitaker
  • Shabana Azeez as medical student Victoria Javadi
  • Shawn Hatosy as night shift attending Dr. Jack Abbot

Tracy Ifeachor, who played Dr. Heather Collins, will not return for the new season. The decision was reported as a creative story choice.

Noah Wyle is set to direct an episode this season, and will also write four episodes. Fellow cast member Shawn Hatosy will also step behind the camera to direct an episode.
